    Its easy to identify a proper stage rally car because of its MSA logbook. The car has to pass an inspection regarding specification & safety to get it.

    Road rally cars often don't have an MSA log book.

    I never see this kind of thing as a problem many people competing in motorsport are also in the car/garage business.

    You just find somewhere to MOT the car that is used to competition vehicles...even if it means driving a few more miles.

    Go & watch any local rally & the cars will covered in advertising & contact phone numbers..usually 'Bloggs tyres & MOT' 'Smiths Garage' etc

        You don't need a RASMSA logbook for sprints and hillclimbs at the moment.

          TÜV by the way stands for Technischer Üntersuchungs Verein and is a company like KÜS, Dekra etc etc.
          The MOT is actually called the HU = Hauptuntersuchung (there used to be an AU Abgasuntersuchung but that is now part of the main test).
          Actually, despite being slightly more restrictive you can still "get away with" a fair bit on an "H plate" and there is a myriad of other ways to get your car registered (red plates etc). So it's not quite as restrictive as many think.

          What is good IMO (since living with the system in Germany), is that only approved parts can be fitted that have been subject to safety (strength, suitability) tests, stuff that hasn't got official approval can still be used if an engineer inspects it and says its safe; so you still get to use it on your car.
          What you don't get in Germany is any idiot fitting dangerous tat on their cars and endangering everyone else on the road!

          As opposed to the French system (full type approval) designed to protect French car manufacturers, the German system allows you to fit safe parts to your car (regardless of whether genuine, approved pattern parts or non-approved parts). Much of this has gone by the board nowadays anyway, i.e. you can fit genuine model specific accessories (alloys, spoilers etc) without getting them entered on the registration document (as used to be the case), so the Germans have to be subject to the EU too!

            Yes you do if the vehicle is NOT road registered or a pure race car for the Libre class! I know, I'm a MSA licensed scrutineer!

              seems clear enough to me ie rollcage , fire ext , door squares and most importantly msa logbook. If it doesnt have a stage rally msa logbook , it isnt a rally car.

                  You do, both my mates Mk1 Lotus Cortina and my brothers Formula Vee sprint cars need RAC MSA logbooks to enter sprints and hillclimbs.

                  I don't believe that the road going classes do though.

                    Not quite true , my last 2 rally cars were only used for international rallies in Europe & never had MSA logbooks .
