Bet when you started Kev you didn't just drive to a show, park in a field and sit behind your car. Bet you and your mates hooned all over the place, attended motorsport events, hooned to the pub, hooned down the lanes, got in each others garages (or more than likely driveways/roadsides) and got your hands dirty.
One of the main reasons I didn't use my car much for 10 years was I just don't like the "scene" To get excited about the odd big drive out (Lakes, Wales, Scotland etc.... All those roads are open all year ) Then to spend the rest of the year sat in a carcoon and slowly driven into a field and then sit on a deck chair behind your car simply does nothing for me.
I've done 2500 FAST miles this summer, decided I don't give a $hit about how much it's worth and got out a used the car (i dont worry about my 25k everyday car) Only attended one show, (RSOC Cornwall) the rest hooning around to and from friend and motorsport events and loved every mile.
If the current scene is dying then RIP, long live a scene where people don't give a $hit about values and get out and drive!!
well said,, in my opinion there to be used , but everyone has there own idea of use , ( mines not to everyones liking, but when i was born i came out sideways ) , get them used, if it brakes, then fix it, if it rusts, them weld it, if you crash it, then repair it,, you can keep an escort goin forever,,, saddly we wont go forever so make the most of the owd escorts ( and no the scene isnt dead , its just more widespread )
I myself have had Escorts most of my 59 years,, started rallying them at club and national level through the late 70s and 80s
Like most got wed and priorities change but never the less still a keen fan of the marque
Bought another MK1 10 years ago and have had loads since, To some degree the scene has become a money making exercise but never the less true fans are still out here
I get a lot of stick regarding the V5 issue but end of the day this business is spoiling the fun and devotion of the true fans
Personally I will continue with the marque and enjoy it as I am sure many on here will do so
i have to admit that i'm suffering from escortosis
i have grown up with Escorts, my Dad owned a mk1 and then a mk2. They were always on the TV in Adverts and shows of the time like the Professionals, Minder, Sweeney, The Marksman. In all sorts of motorsport, remember watching Barry Lee in a Escort Hotrod on world of sport on saturdays, and lots of escorts in Rallying.
I served my apprenticeship at a ford dealer in the mid 80's, they were still coming into the dealership for servicing and repairs, lots of RS Escorts in the body shop too.
i had my first Escort soon after passing my test in the late 80's.
i have always had an escort since then, my current cars are a MK2 Mexico owned for over 20 years and a MK2 RS2000 Xpack which i've owned for over 16 years. Hope to still have an Escort to enjoy my retirement with in many years time.
Regards
Bill
ive had quite a few mk1's and mk2's did s few up got rid of others , sold a couple of mine due to circumstances some to get something different , i still watch the rallying and go to some car shows , i spent a lot of time on here enjoyed meeting the people when it was possible ,
the "scene" seemed to be a bit anal to me, more back biting and sarky comments, the fun was the drives and banter , once i got rid of the last one as it was knackered I can say it was like disappearing into obscurity
but i still like the carst think i would know on here anymore just the core
