              What a great thread this!

Although my RS was not on the road this year, I love it all the same. I've loved them from the first day I bought my Escort Sport back in 1974. It takes me back to my youth, the music, the girls, way of life, just everything, and it will be the very last thing I ever let go. Thank god it has even survived my recent divorce, which I was worrried about! For the moment it is taking second place, as my house needs some caring love and attention to replace a worn out bathroom, kitchen and things.

The only reasons that bother me which could have affected others are, the cost of the cars, cost of petrol, cost of parts, and difficulty in finding quality parts too. It's not so bad when there's plenty of money flowing around but many have been forced to sell up which indicates how hard these times are.

Of course there are the guys that take a bit of swapping and changing until they learn to find the right car for themselves. Others that think they would like a nice old car, and find out afterwards that they are not for them. Then there are others that just like the kick from doing them up, selling them on and getting another to do up. Lastly there are the ones that buy for investements.

To be honest, I've done all the shows and the tours, and really enjoyed them at the time. I think I went to too many, but it's great when these things are new. For me I think they peaked, and after my interest was not the same. I love a spin out somewhere, so more short tours out for the day and have a good natter together would probably be my thing.

I think we are the right age to love and enjoy these cars, a lot of us had one years ago or just remember them being around, especially on the rallies, but I don't think there are as many youngsters coming up to carry the interest going, it's like I'm not really into 1950's cars! The late 60's and 70's were my time and so with cars. My kids are in their 20's and have no interest in my car whatsoever.

It's great getting to know everyone, seeing their cars, and shareing our knowledge too. Long live the forum and the scene.

              Cheers, Tim

Being an 'old pecker' my love is for all rwd Fords for last 50 yrs started with a 105E van, then car, then 1500 Anglia, Lotus TC Anglia, Mk1 GT Cortina, Mk2 Lotus Cortina, Mk 1 Escort 1100 chucked engine out for 1600, Mk 2 1600 with RS running gear, 2.0 Sapphire GLS, Mk 1 big wing 1700 Escort, Focus ST170 with a spattering of Vauxhalls and an Avenger Tiger and Sunbeam 1600 Rally motors. A break for a good few years and got my Mk2 RS2000 2 years ago which is really clean but I bought it to use it not stare at, done 8 classic tours in it including this tears Lakes and more of the same next year, I don't give a monkeys about the effect on value, it's a car not an ornament.

Lol, good night that :-) .As regards the escort scene, sometimes time away works wonders. I'm giving the lakes a miss next year, to do Ruddy and Martin's German tour. May or may not leave track for twelve months too . Car can stay in the Garage for a year. It'll still be there, when I get bored restoring the new toy. I look at it like this, its your car, you paid for it, do what the f*** you want with it, but above all else enjoy it otherwise, what's the point? . I just love cars, might even get the cossie out of hibernation lol.

Kev, when was the last time we all camped at Brooke meadow or such like, or did fancy dress in some random pub in the middle of nowhere? When was the last time we had 65 cars on display? Winning countless (at least 2) best club stands

Also sold all my left over bits at good prices on here rather than selling on ebay

                              Just saying
