Had Mk2's since 2000.
Instead of buying and driving this time, I purchased a Rot Box locally nearly 3years ago and building it (when time permits) into what I want from a MK2.
In it for the money? I've never made money in RS's, there a ****in expensive hobby!

Having owned SKC for 13 years it was bought at a time when MKI and MKII Escorts were looked upon as nostalgic scrap owned by people stuck in the 70's-80's
A decent useable example could be bought out of Autotrader for a couple of grand and much fun was to be had.
Well now the Escort scene has for a number of years been "infiltrated" by many who see it as the next Gravy Train
For me the scene was forked when I had a phone call at 10:30 one night asking me "not to bid on an item on Ebay as he needed that part for part of his rebuild" well that and other "famous" rebuilds made ALL out there realise that the scrap parts sitting in their garages in bit boxes was now worth serious money and the era of "cheque book" rebuilds was born - Ending the Escort's friendly scene.
Money is the root of all evil and sadly the Escort has been seen as a cash cow that needed milking - well prices have rocketed and now people are getting jittery when in the cold light of day all their Escort car and part invoices have been added up and wives find out just how much "that old knacker in a plastic tent" actually costs.
Dont blame the car blame the greed of many over the last 10+ years
THAT IS WHAT HAS KILLED THE SCENE

I've had escorts for 27 years now and have enjoyed meeting people.from.all.over the.country
I try and get to shows when I can but shifts and family meant this yr I done the lakes tour Saturday and retro rides gathering where I met people that were into all sorts of vehicles
I was put off using the car due to thefts and only today spoke with a friend about never buying another escort
I've met some really good folk and others

I think the price ike and ebay done the damage
Escorts have priced themselves out of the market for the raggy lads.
3k for a shafted one on ebay back in the day £400
12k for a bag on shit you could run round in £2k in the day
20k for a goodun £5K in the day
25k 30k for a sharp one £8K in the day
Then you have the mister £60k
You can get alot of motorcar for £60K even a nice Porker!
Glad I played back in the day with Escorts.
A good nite out in Tarn could get the scene going
Be good to see Ches and Frosty on the back shelf doing the YMCA in the wine bar
regards

I have loved Mk2 escorts since I was a kid going to rallying with my dad , and 6/7 years ago I was able to buy my 1st Mk2 and now had 3 along with rs1600i / RS T s1 / escort Cosworth / RS focus / and just bought another RS2000 base start of the year . Growing up I always fancied the RS and have almost had all the ones I ever wanted and had lots of fun / going nuts / over the years , so that's why I have changed RS a number of times . But we must remember their is LIFE outside MK2's and this form ( as good as it is ! ) and I thought I was doing the right thing selling up last year ! That lasted 10 months and am back in a MK2 again and looking forward to having restored !!! So because I have not kept the same car for years mean am not into the " scene " or a true RS fan ??!! It's good to try the different RS's or any other classic / car . But I must say I think this is a very good site and a great bunch of guys that have helped me out over the years ! But yes not the buzz it had a few years ago , but like I say more to life than MK2's , like - 5 kids ! Flat out at work , family , keeping the wife happy , holidays , being good , shagging Lol !!!!sigpic
