I can't believe you lot "bit". On the other hand Steven, was it just a wind-up or are you serious?
It does seem a bit of an odd opinion for someone to have on a forum like this where most are keen on rallying or are keen rally spectators.

If he "really is" arguing that rallies should be stopped, let him, there's nothing wrong with expressing an opinion whether you agree wih it or not

Everyone can have their own opinion but this is a Rally Sport Escort site where majority of members enjoy watching or competing on rallies. So if his comments are true then he is stupid to own/ owned an RS Escort.
Without rallying the RS name would not exist.

I don't see the logic there.
Leaving the name of the site aside, what's the problem with having an opinion that doesn't key in with a majority (possibly) of the forum users?

If you want to be scrupulously fair, Ford's rallying activities and thus the RS badge were just a means to an end, i.e. a marketing strategy.

In the 60s Ford cars had a bad reputation for rusting and not being especially reliable. Walter Hayes (<- link) was brought in to get Ford good publicity and sales and he dreamt up the rallying programme as a means to that end.

The Mk1 and 2 Escorts are thus inextricably linked to rallying but that doesn't mean you have to worship at the alter of motorsport – rallying in this case – to enjoy the cars. What about the post '80 cars, none of those were rally successes but still wear the RS badge.
Following your logic, Sierra Cosworth enthusaists should be addicted to the BTCC???

Not entirely true. "Some" people love the RS brand for road cars only. I have to admit that I prefer road going RS cars to Rally/Race cars. That's just me.

People on here do need to lighten up a little as seriousness = Boredom. Maybe this is why this forum isn't as active as it once was............

Mr F (Love him or hate him (I'm the latter )) will be laughing his little c o c k off at this. For once, His "Spanner" has made me chuckle.

I've known him over 35 years, he has never been a Rally fan, did once come to watch when we were competing, I was gobsmacked !

I think you need to read what I said. I said the MAJORITY not ALL on here show an interest in rallying.
The RS brand has been born because of rallying.
The Sierra was a popular rally car as well as a touting car. The Escort Cosworth was used widely in rallying.
I think the forum will become less active due to people not really understanding what they have in their garage. So just buy cars as an investment or because its the in thing to do.
I come here to learn about the cars and hopefully help others with the experience I have gained by owning and using a Rally Sport Escort.

I think you need a history lesson........

This forum was born from the now defunct RS MK2 Escort Club back in Jan 2003 which was predominantly for road cars & the odd competition car (The Vicar et all) so "Majority" of members were road car enthusiasts.

The people who now buy the cars has changed from "True" Enthusiasts who have always had one of one description or another since their youth. To the money men of now who are looking to make money & don't really care about the cars. These people come & go very quickly.

Most of the original members on here do not visit very often nowadays due to the diminishing "Craic" that was once had. Maybe we are just getting old.

You seem not to be able to read.

The RS brand is born from rallying. I dont know who or why this forum started but was attracted by the heading.

I guess I am misguided and should go else were.

I KNOW WHERE THE RS BRAND WAS BORN FROM......................

I'm just stating that your remark about the majority being rallying based is wrong.

This thread is rapidly degenerating into a sketch, namely The Scousers...

I think we can allow ourselves a conclusion:

1: Motorsport is dangerous and it is a shame when people get injured attending such events.

2: Ford used rallying to flog more cars, especially during the 1960s and 1970s

3: Mk1 & Mk2 Escorts are great fun, whether you hunt them across stages or just attend "The Lakes" or just drive your classic.

4: Life's too short to get wound up about whether somebody appears to have be enjoying something even if they appear to fit in with the "rest of the crowd"

Have a nice afternoon lads here, at least, it is a nice sunny day...

Ford used the RS brand to sell cars of all cc's 950-2000 for Escorts. 99% WERE NOT USED FOR RALLYING. So there we are! It was for marketing purposes. Many are getting too serious on here thats because many are old and wiser escort enthusiasts and the youngsters cannot keep up.
