Regency Stages Rally car crashes into Somerset spectators



The one-day Regency Stages Rally was taking place at the Royal Bath and West Showground
A rally car has left the track and ploughed into a crowd of spectators, injuring four people.
It happened at the Royal Bath and West Showground in Shepton Mallet, Somerset, where the one-day Regency Stages Rally is taking place.
A father and his two boys were taken to hospital with injuries which are not thought to be life-threatening, the ambulance service said.
Medical treatment was given to a fourth person at the scene.

More than 200 spectators are at the event, organised by the Weston-super-Mare Motor Club, which features 60 rally cars competing across 10 stages.
Avon and Somerset Police said changes have been made to the track and a decision was taken to continue with the event.
A spokesman said the rally driver involved in the crash, which happened close to 11:00 BST, was suffering from shock but was not hurt.
A joint police and Health and Safety Executive investigation is taking place.
A South Western Ambulance Service spokesperson said the crash had "had the potential to be much worse than it was".

SAFETY CONCERNS

There are now serious and genuine concerns about the event thanks to the growing number of thoughtless and mindless individuals who are continuing to drive their cars out of stages while it's still live.

The event's ambulances are now being held up on stages by these individuals driving their private cars on the closed-off public roads.

There are growing concerns about the safety levels for genuine, knowledgeable spectators and, of course, the competitors.

Can we just stress: it is illegal for members of the public to drive their cars on the roads — no matter how quiet they appear to be — when they are 'live' for the stage.

They are, strictly, breaking the law, and risk being detained by the police and charged for contravention of the road closure order!

yes i just sold a bog standard original classic car rs2000 there is to many non standard ones out there with strut braces all the rally gear on them that never go off road its just old boy racers that own them its like having a formula 1 car one the road plain stupid in my eyes

"All they do is race a clock to be honest" just like qualifying for a race, then they all follow the man on pole, or crash into each other.

Looking at the past there have been more injuries and even fatalities at football stadiums.

or ice cream banned cause some people eat it to fast and get headache

or ban people from going on holiday incase they get sunburn
