its a shame some feel that theyre not welcome etc, its like all large groups theres always going to be a divide in how people like to spend their days out.
The lakes tour for instance, mainly from people from this site, and dont forget the site started iirc from the RS Escort site which is no longer. So mainly RS vehicles. As the site grew and internet took off so more and more "escort" enthusiasts found it. So the little groups from around the country spent their time at the tour "in their group"
On the rallyesportescort stands we had encouraged all marques to join in from here, a typical venue was/is AVO day, 40+ cars on the stand, vans, estates motor homes, RSs, works cars etc etc.
As Tim said maybe it needs a event organiser to take the helm, Its been mentioned several times on here.
I do like the non ford shows, must start taking the car out to these, but for whatever reasons i get wound up with the amount of traffic etc, so the car wont be out, and hasnt since 2010

Dave Robbo perfect example of making all cars and owners welcome, he's only got a 1.3 pop plus and he's always welcome at any show

The stick that i got when i bought a mk2 RS and cut the front off to flatfront it really peed my off with the scene, The RS gang have a lot of members who are to snooty when it comes to the non RS models, escorts are escorts regardless of spec, but so many RS owners dont seem to realise this, and like to slate other owners cars as they think that they are the Elite. This has then created ther divide between models and spec.
I know owners with some really nice cars who wont join clubs as they are sick of comments about "that part isnt right and it should have this on it"

This is no way a pop at the RS Owners Club, it is my own opinion.
Here Here Lee i bought two then But then again i dont care who dont like me foooook em

The last couple of years I've started the new year with the intention of getting mine back on the road for the first time since 1998. However, I've not progressed as far as I should have (mostly as I hate the dirty welding stage that I have to finish before doing the more pleasant mechanical and cleaning up stage ).

What I'm looking forward to though is going to some of the meetings (especially if they are down South as I drive enough with work without wanting to do 100s of motorway miles in a 4 speed car). I'm sure there will be banter and I'll get laughed at due to my 'microwave door' sunroof (which was put in before my parents bought the car in 1980), but it's staying otherwise it could be another 10 years off the road if I try to reskin the roof.

I got back on the car scene a bit more this year having bought a Z3 3.0 and going along to a few meets in that (and no doubt getting laughed at too, as it's well known to be a 'hairdressers car' though I've enjoyed it). I found that quite a few people turned up in their 'backup' cars as their P&J was off the road for one reason or another, but at least they turned up. In the same spirit maybe those like me whose cars are off the road can still turn up at the meets, if only to get to know the crowd. It could be handy to find out about things like different exhausts as I'll need one for mine, but don't want to be stuck with something I couldn't live with, so just chating to fellow Escort owners and listening to their exhausts would be useful.

In any case I hope the scene thrives with the old guard and newer members like myself coming along and (one day ) presenting our cars too.

This site started it's life as the MK2 RS Escort Club back in Jan 2003. This is why all the older members will have RS cars other than non RS cars. It was made up mainly of people who knew each other from either showing in concours or just being part of the RS Scene during the 80's & 90's
The site changed to RSE in 2004 to distance itself from the MK2 Club as things were getting slightly messy.................. This was to encourage ALL variants of MK1 & MK2 Escorts.
We used to have many a get together before the shows and many beers/Vodka was consumed along with the trusty Works Team BBQ. We also used to have numerous nights out in Barnsley & Nottingham which were always a great laugh. The Lakes Tour was born from this site in 2006 with 55 cars taking part & the tour starting from Penrith Services............... (The night before was entertaining. )
Since then, The site has grown & grown to what it is today with many people coming & going over the years.
We used to have Club Stands at the likes of AVO Day (Best Club Stand), Classic Ford (Best Club Stand) & Ford Fair, Croft. We would regularly see 40+ cars on our stands.
Unfortunately we haven't had "Proper" Club Stands for a few years now due to varying reasons which is probably why interest seems to have waned somewhat as the evenings before were as anticipated as the shows themselves the following day.
Hopefully we can re-invent our club stands & the camping to get the enthusiasm back that there once was.

There certainly were some very entertaining evenings...............

                      Barnsley,
                      Nottingham, (Including Rock City )
Camping at Whittlebury Hall before Ford Fair.............
                      Camping at Brooke Meadow
                      Camping at Billing Aquadome..................
                      Camping at the Heaves,

                      I could go on.

                      Bring it on again
