It's strange to hear many people feel put out by by the mags preference to newer more expensive faster cars. Maybe they will remember this feeling of being put on the sidelines the next time they say a Harrier is ONLY a 1600 Sport with fancy stripes.

People get carried away by the RS prefix. Any MKI or II is a bloody rare sight and if people love them and want to preserve them then it must be to the greater good to have all MKI and II included.

Even a chopped up 1.3 Ghia bloody automatic !

      Dave,

Some good points - make no mistake, I personally think you do a great job with this site.

Do remember though that the RSOC site has a technical forum of it's own - it has the same facility as this site so no-one is reliant upon waiting for magazines etc. The only difference is that no bugger uses it - why is that I wonder.

I'll give you a vote for MKII Reg and I agree with the separate Mexico reg comment.

Still not sure about 'you only get what you put in' - I am still adamant that it is the club's responsibility to provide for the members.

Phil, the offer to take care of membership is still open my friend.

Because I think YOU would be proactive in your approach to how the RSOC deals with MKII cars. You have demonstrated that ability on this site.

i think that everyone has put some very valid points forward , i was a member of the rsoc in my 16i days and a member of the avo club in my mk1 days.
It is only natural that the club will progress with new younger members who come into it whose main interest is the stuff that they dreamed about when they were younger, just like us with the older stuff when we were there age.
The registras job in what ever model is always a hard job to fill and we should at least give them credit for trying to fill a thankless task (not that we are knocking anyone) and i feel that is is partly up the the members as to there contribution as to what goes in the mags.
I think most of us are more than happy to come here for our old school fix and as dave says, where else do you get the same level of techical help etc.
I think we all agree dave has done a great job of the site and long may it continue
Maybe the mk2 club will be the way forward with more planning and organisation - i wonder what the members numbers are now ?
Perhaps phil would like some help with the club or more input etc ?.

This is a good thread to gather peoples thoughts and hopefully take them to the rsoc or maybe help phil with ideas for the mk2 club

I run this site in the MKII RS Escort Club's name only

I own the url www.rsmk11escortclub.co.uk but will pass DNS certificate to Phil Teear f.o.c. should it ever be asked for !

I receive nor do I request any financial contribution towards the BB

Webspace and bandwidth at the moment is provided to me by a friend of mine

At this time the BB occupies 80 mb and requires 10 mb of free space to operate

btw : Dont forget Topaz provides free picture uploader and hosting to all

                  Hope this helps ?

Thought I would add my two peneth.

I have also been a long time member of the RSOC, 19 years I think. I servered on the Committee for 8 years as Tresurer. I have not been an active member of the RSOC for a number of years, but I have always supported it whenever possible and the large amount of people I have met during my involvment, the fun I had in helping Graham John organise the early Donington National Days and the support I recieved, has more than justified the membership fees.

I guess you just have to ask yourself if you feel the same way ... does/has your RSOC membership paid for itself over the year/s?

I agree with most of the comments above. The RSOC has to cater to a wide variety of models and the weight of interest will always be with the majority, so therefore the Turbos and Cossies will dominate just by sheer numbers. I feel the Club dropped the ball in a serious way when their BB was off line for so long and I have always been dissapointed by the fact that re-manufacture of part was never seriously attempted by the club even after the money was less of an issue following some successful National Days.

I have , for some time been amazed at how the RS scene has not created large numbers of small clubs, you only have to look at the number of Capri and Granada clubs to see how it could have gone.

It was enevitable that there would be smaller clubs setup to cater for the older models. When Phil told me he was setting up the MK2 RS Club, I thought he was mad and it would never last. He has proved me wrong and he had the foresight to build a club that caters for the most popular Old Skool RS's. Long may it continue and grow, but he wil need help, as has been mentioned.

On the Registrar front, I salute anyone who takes on such a role, it can be thankless. However, I think the popularity of BB such as this one have effectivly taken over from the traditional Registrar role of supplying Technical support and a general forum to chat about your favorite car.

This BB is very well run by Dave and it is responcible for the growth of the Mk2 RS Club in no small way. Keep up the good work.

                      CheeRS, Ian

                        My two peneth

l totaly agree with Ian(raybs) l hope to build the club to the size of the AVO club, thats my aim. l know at this stage we need to pull our sock up a bit with some issues, but in general l think we the organiser of the club and that includes dave who's the web-site manager do a good job. In my eyes the only job that needs looking at is getting the members newletter
'Opposite lock' out on time, every quarter that four times a year and we struggle every time, mainly because of input and getting it put together, my be it time it was handed over fully to the sub editor so it take some pressure of me. And to back up whats be said, yes dave does a great job with the BB site

                        CheeRS Phil (club organiser)
