    Re: r.s.o.c

Pretty disillusioned with RSOC myself too.
Not wanting to point fingers but this year I can't be arsed with it all and next year i'll probably drop out and not renew my membership.

Rarely bother with the rsoc bb nowadays either.. whats the point when this ones 100% better.

I have recently re-joined the RS Owners Club and with the greatest respect to owners of later RS's I was dissapointed having now received two copies and found little coverage of anything other than Cosworths and Focus's.

I guess as time goes by the emphasis has shifted towards the newer RS models and because they are in the majority the editors of Rallye News tailor the content of the mag accordingly.

I then looked elsewhere and found the RS MKII Escort Club via a web search and I think the BB is spot on mainly because it's specific to MK 2's. All sub-headings on the BB very useful.

This Club and BB on first impressions seems to provide what the members require and is a credit to those who set it up and maintain it! Keep up the good work.

i am a member of both clubs concerned and in my opinion theres nowt wrong with the rsoc. i get a very good insurance cover which covers me on rsoc organised track days of which i try to do at least 4 a year inc both days at nat day. if you want to see morein the rally news about old skool get some articles sent in about your cars and hopefully james will print them, afterall if pen is,nt put to paper he can,t print it. i know what yoursaying about the registars but if anybody else wants to have a go get down to the agm and have ago i know i would,nt like the job as it is a thankless task trying to keep everybody happy.
dave you do a excellent job on here mate keep up the good work, you would make a bloody good registrar?

As one of the MK2 registrars I find it difficult to put any input into the mag as alot of 1800 owners do not wish for there cars to be known, why? I dont know,Len (RS3100) does a fantastic job and all his members support him 100%. I have included guides and other articles in the past but I find myself repeating items that might not interest older members. I wonder how many us that have sent in articles that are members. Its a difficult shout...hands up who could fulfil these difficult positions within the club.
If you are against our positions the agm is the place to be and positions are always up for grabs.
I wrote to 40 RS1800 owners to display their cars at the MK2 national day and the RS Owners Clubs National Day of which one said yes to the MK2 day and 7 to the RS Nat Day... I must be doing something wrong?
your thoughts to improve a service grately received.
                        Cheers Dave.

i agree with what everyone has said so far, i too am an RSOC member, and feel there is little content there for me, i am also an SEOC member which i have enjoyed so far this year, with natter nights, and the national day, next year i will not rejoin RSOC, and join this club instead, totally caters to what i like, this BB is also great, i would like to shake your hand on saturday dave custom, but i feel you may be too busy flipping burgers to oblige.........

trickster, very noble of you mate,i have a beer ready for you on saturday night,i have been advised the strap is of no use to rs2000 though as its shorter you learn something new everyday.dave the debate on the rsoc was indeed no critisism of your self it was only an open debate to gauge EVERYONES feelings and i dont think the rs1800 reg affects very many of us on here.although personally we all wish it would.

Cor blimey, this is a good-un....

Point 1. The RSOC. I've been a member for almost 20 years now with a short break about 7 years ago. Of course the club will move 'with the times', it's only natural. If I look back through my old copies of RN from the early 80's, there is enough MKI and MKII stuff in them to make you all salivate. The more recent copies of RN have just reflected the RS marque as it has moved forward with the times. Maybe there is some criticism to be levelled at the RSOC here for not remembering it's roots but have a closer look through the last 6 or so issues and you will notice a definite increase in Old Skool content - so it would seem to me that the RSOC has responded to comments.

Point 2. RSOC National Day. Those who say that the RSOC National Day is no good need to think hard and qualify that statement. The RSOC is what it says it is - Rallye Sport Owners Club - i.e. it has to cater for all. Show me another club with the muscle to organise a two day event with 25 year celebrations, famous drivers in original cars etc. etc. etc.....

Point 3. Magazine/Newsletter content. I'm thinking about one particular comment regarding reliance upon memebers for content in RN. Yes, having articles submitted from members is good but should not be a pre-requisite for a good magazine. It is the club's responsibility (be it RSOC or MKII) to provide good content to give the members a good read - it should not be reliant upon member input - that's just passing the buck !

Point 4. Why do some people seem to view this BBS and the MKII Club as separate things - they shouldn't be. As I understnad it, Dave runs, pays and administers this site which in part is wrong - the club at least should pay for it and take proper ownership of it if it is to bear the club's name etc. This may be a little presumptious in respect of Dave's involvement but, and correct me if I'm wrong Dave, you are the club's BBS and web administrator ?

OK - it's not a simple answer to the original post question, there is no black and white, only shades of grey. It's a shame that Phil felt that dissilusioned with the RSOC in the first place that he saw the need to set up this club but I simply can't sit here and make a sweeping statement that one is good and the other not - both have issues, it's up to the individual committies to straighten out members concerns and I believe the RSOC are addressing the Old Skool issues.

Rant over......looking forward to Saturday night !

                                OK here goes - lol

How can a 6 times a year (RSOC) or once a millenium (RS MKII Escort) magazine compete with a 24/7 365 days a year website ?

                                They never will !

Ask a tech question on website, answer within minutes

Ask a tech question in ANY mag, answer if you lucky !

Send an article online = instant

Send a mag article = maybe next issue who knows ?

OK - thats the easy answer out the way

                                _____________________________________-

                                Now for the RSOC Registrars

We all expect our own car type to have a pro-active registrar - agreed

Now dealing purely with MKII RS's

Dave1800BDA - at least enters something into Rallye News every now and again -

John Hughes - Not much lately but has he been busy ?

I hear John has started a new job so maybe not the time to spend on MKII's

MKII Club - Phil Teear - (stop laughing at the back) Club has now reached a pivotal point in its existence

Phil - it is obvious you cannot cope with all that the club and its members require - just take a look at my e-mail inbox !

                                My suggestions :

ps. Dont worry it is your club and always will be !

                                1. Give the membership account to someone who can cope

                                2. Magazine - again pass it on to someone who can cope (and maybe they will be able to spell as well )

                                ***********************************************

As for me becoming MKII RS2000 and Mexico Registrar

I am willing to "have a go" but surely the Mexico deserves its own registrar ?

I cannot tell you the correct colour of a nut or bolt or clip on a MKII

                                BUT

I can give helpfull information to preserve the Marque and keep RS's going !!

If enough people show their support then at 2005 RSOC AGM I may just allow myself to be put forward for registrars postion

John Hughes is still the registrar and respect to his contribution in such a thankless task and who knows he may wish to continue in the role ?

As mentioned before - you only get out what you put in !
