  • Petrol is back

Apparently petrol is making a comeback.
I bloody hate diesels, if people that bang on about how great diesels are had to do the fuel filter and engine oil changes on the rubbish, I'm sure the blackness and stink on their hands would soon put them off. Dirty disgusting so-called "fuel"

I have to say that when I get an average fuel consumption figure like I did yesterday, diesel is very attractive. 520d touring much better than the 330ci it replaced.

Mind you, it dont go as well as the 330!

I get 50+mpg from my petrol car.

On another note, I read manual sales in America are up 50%.

Your saving on fuel soon goes out of the window when you get injector problems, pumps, blown turbos and leaky injector seals spewing carbon everywhere.
Swirl flaps on bmw,s fall out and bugger the engine.
My local diesel specialist had 10 duratorq mondeos lined up the other day plus all the pug/ Citroen hdi's. As for merc sprinters.......
                  Petrol all the way!!

That's what I mean, not only have the car manufacturer's baulked at making an effort to get petrol engines up to the level of sofistication of current diesels, i.e. the manufacturer's have promoted diesels by investing loads of money to get them up to the level of relatively "low tech" petrol engines.

My point was also that these people "luvvin it" in their diesel engined motor, would do well to get hands on and work on the rubbish for any length of time!

When I was still working as a mechanic, I remeber the Mondeo/Pug/X-Type diesels were a right pain, breaking down all the time. The MkIII Mondeos were particularly bad with the pump impellers disinterating

People also conveniently forget that any diesel worth driving has a turbo fitted, bolt a turbo to a petrol engine of the same capacity, and see how they size up against one another.

                        !!
Yep, I also remember when the Vauxhall DTi engine was introduced.
The whole variable inlet tract assembly was completely ***ed up within 10,000 miles, a bloody disgrace!
I think Vauxhall cured it by the time the 2.2 version was introduced, but that engine was a right nightmare
