I never rated the 1.6 OHC, a 16 sport went pretty well for its time

At the time of manufacture the Mexico was marginaly faster than the Sport. You also have to consider that the RS Mexico engine was heavier and it was also shod with wider tyres, therefore being a heavier car and it also had to cope with more drag.
The advantage of the Sport was that it had a more tunable engine, so at the end of the day it could be easily tuned to outperform the RS.
Being so similar in performance made the cheaper Sport a better buy as sales figures clearly show. Quickly the owners of Sports could easily make their cars appear to look like an RS with the Ford or aftermarket front and rear spoilers that were soon made available.

Tick tock goes the clock and the clock don't lie .
12.4sec to 109mph With NO turbo , NO gay trailer , NO slicks , NO gas , NO race fuel and NO bits missing . Beat that !!!!
