I never considered starting from a new mint shell and have a very nice shell which would have been totally mint in every way when Neil was done with it, but now starting at with this point puts it on another level. I still have not worked out with Neil the way to go but one thing for certain she will be one hell of a car when she is done

Personally I wouldnt have started this thread, you've potentially given your 1800 the 'reshell' stigma most try to keep quiet.

Is the new shell to RS spec or standard spec....... maybe best not to answer that one.

Still a good find but beware the finger pointers.

Let's get my head round this , you have a rs1800 ? All in tact being restored ? But are thinking about re- shelling it ? I would not do it . It's got to be all better on the origional shell even restored . But your cars you can do what you want .

Once people know its been re shelled the c,ar gets stuck with that tag all it's days . Forever .

Well it’s simple for me my early 1800 was re-shelled a long time ago and I am not hiding that. What I have now to consider is I have an original Ford Shell Part Trimmed NOS and for me that potentially makes the car closer to original Ford spec than where it is now . It has a plate on it saying all of this and all the paperwork to back this up. What I am considering is restoring my early RS1800 to full concourse condition and using this shell to do this. I could restore the shell it’s sitting in to a very high standard, as I have done that with my other 1800 but having a NOS shell gives me a real dilemma. I am hoping to restore this car to the best possible RS1800 I can and if the shell was original I would not even consider this, but it’s not so I believe restoring this car around an original Ford part all be it’s a shell potentially is the right thing to do.

I think you make a fair point and I applaud the fact that you are being open and honest about the cars history, starting with a NOS shell is a big bonus in any build and will give the best 'factory' result, having documentation to back it up is all good news.

                            Cheers, Paul

A great find Gary, and will make your RS1800 a stunning car once finished.

As paul has said all the documentation will help and I know you'll be happy which is all that matters

                              Cheers Martin
