Yes, lead in the exhaust can cause brain damage (have you ever heard of anyone who's suffered from it?) but look at what cats and unleaded fuel do : highly carcinogenic componds replaced the lead, carbon dioxide replaced carbon monoxide and cats also chuck out nitrous oxide, a greenhouse gas 300 times more potent than C02. A whole industry popped up from nowhere, mining, refining and shipping precious metals like platinum to make cats, which creates yet more C02 and human misery.
