  • Food for thought...

Read this in a mag recently, thought I'd share it.....

"You have to wonder which world class lobbyist convinced the US government to introduce unleaded fuel (1970) and make cats compulsory (1975).
Yes, lead in the exhaust can cause brain damage (have you ever heard of anyone who's suffered from it?) but look at what cats and unleaded fuel do : highly carcinogenic componds replaced the lead, carbon dioxide replaced carbon monoxide and cats also chuck out nitrous oxide, a greenhouse gas 300 times more potent than C02. A whole industry popped up from nowhere, mining, refining and shipping precious metals like platinum to make cats, which creates yet more C02 and human misery.
    Nice one."

I might be wrong (often am! ) but I believe it's nitrogen oxide rather than nitros oxide.

I'll now await the chemistry lesson from someone more knowledgable than me (not difficult, either)

NO2 comes out of the exhaust (nitrogen dioxide), N2O is the 'laughing' stuff (nitrous oxide).

For those that read this, the N0x (both gases explained above) print out on a on a UK MOT exhaust emissions test. Tight arsed diesel car owners cause much more N0x than these who can afford a petrol car.

A side industry of catalytic converters is a demographic population of the UK recycling them before their useful life is up. This also promotes sales of battery angle grinders and helps the UK economy twofold
