Funny enough I got mine done today, I was amazed what he handed me!
Something to do with the ministry cut backs, ok they may be now on a database, but like you say, easy to print and sell with a car to an unsuspecting buyer!

We said the same when they were introduced to us.
vosa say that the certificate is really just a receipt as your mot is stored online.
I said at a recent mot seminar the the new ones look cheap and fake, vosa said its to keep everything cheaper for the customer and the garages.

I know what you mean and I agree.

Plain paper is more available and lsd likely to be stolen.

We had our annual seminar last month too ! Had the exact same conversation the reply we got was there leading up to document less tests The only reason we still have a certificate is by law we have to supply the customer with a certificate as part of legal transaction and if they can change that legislation the mot certificate will be history I looking forword to that NOT ! Here's your keys, its passed, thanks for your money goodbye

It probably will happen though. Lets face it, will people care about having a load of old MOT certificates for say, a Focus RS?
If the govt does abandon MOT cert's then they should offer a service whereby owners can access a pdf and they can download that and or print it out.

After all, all the business of gangs breaking into garages just to nick a book of cetrificates isn't much fun for the garage to sort out either. All it really is, is a piece of bureaucracy, i.e. the govt forces you to get the vehicle tested, so you have to do it and that meant an MOT certificate until now.

I know there's an added feel of provenance about the car when you see the old certificates, but these days with being able to get fake "old tax discs" etc, can you really put too much faith in that sort of provenance anyway?

Dont see the worry meself, if your buying a car then just check it online before you go an veiw it, way safer than buying a car with a fake or stolen MOT cert ?
although it would be nice to have a decent paper cert as an extra cost option for the history file i agree
