The problem with these cars are they take over your life without you knowing it till you are in too deep so to speak, Then there is no turning back.

Then when you are at that point where you have done everything but still never happy the car is of a standard that you cant bring yourself to use it and gane the return enjoyment for all your hard work

I personaly have spent years on all my cars, working, spending money, hunting parts, details, clips, nuts bolts and washers for what.......

My rs18 gets transported round all the time in the shuttle, which I know there are a few people who have made remarks about that!!! But simple fact is!!! its too nice and rare to do anything with. My County Garage car is the vain of my life trying to find parts that are so rare and pictorial information so it correct when done, that its been on the go now for 7-8 years and nowhere near done. Then there is my broadstripe, which I have spent blood, sweat and tears on and will again be way to nice for me to bring myself to use .

So you sit back and ask yourself what is the point? Answer- there is no point!!

    So what do you do??

dont think its an obsession more like a natural progression, replace one part with new and it makes the rest look a bit tatty and so it starts.
wonder if its just a male thing?

Seal it all up (body/underbody protection) to protect it from the weather, then use the bloody thing!

I went to a lot of trouble similar to you just gettting the car right, with all the right bits, but I could not just look at it, take it to shows on a trailer, and never drive it. Driving an RS is part of the experience of owning it. I try to get out in mine once a week and I've been out in the rain too, but that is nothing compared to what cars used to put up with 30 odd years ago, left out to the rain and constant damp during all those winters, and covered in salt too.

Get the car prepared for the road, and use it regularly without piling up the miles on if you like, to save wearing out all those expensive parts in one go. We are custodians of these cars, and who's going to benefit in the end.....the future owners! Think yourself lucky that you have an RS, so enjoy your life to the full with driving one while you are here, life's too short otherwise!

My car is bodysealed and undersealed, just like they were for everyday use 30 odd years ago. The difference now is that I'm able to look after it more carefully, keeping it well maintained, clean and dry for most of the time. So what if you get a blob of rust, then you just cut it out and replace it with good, a small price to pay for a lot of pleasure driving it I think!

Really can't be bothered with mine at all anymore. Just look at it in the Carcoon and think "You can stay there"

Count yourselves lucky that you dont own a £25k TR7

However, I have had more enjoyment out of this car than all my Escorts put together, why , because I use it .

Escorts made me ill, after years of stressing over finding parts, never being happy with the cleanliness, always searching for a better car, keeping an eye out for the weather, watching where you leave them, swerving round puddles and gravel, stocking parts , spending the shopping money on parts etc

I even left my TR7 parked in the local multi storey a few days ago, grant it I dont live in a metropolis, I have had more positive comments from the general public about the TR than any of my Escorts, hate to say it but I think a lot of people think the shiney Escort boys are :winka:

Get out with them and enjoy them, your only saving them for someone elses enjoyment at a later date.

Son, Escort'less and happier, but still skint

Well said ruddy son think u have hit the nail on the head. I am at a point where I don't like using LAR, in fact she's staying in the carcoon this year

Fortunately I have the mex which I don't mind using so have the best of both worlds. Does seem stupid tho having a car that your scared to use.
