problem is the worry at what might happen.........especially when you do the work yourself, realistically my RS isn't gonna be on the road for at least 5 years, hoping to get the Estate on the road this year, but I'm wanting to spend 3 grand max getting it there, owt that you don't need isn't going back on the thing.....then I dream of getting all the tasty bits for the RS and making it into my ideal car.......but at the end of it which car will I end up getting the most enjoyment out of????????

I have a mk3 xr2i I gave 550 quid for, it's been resprayed by stevie wonder then rubbed down with a brick, the interior's saggy, got cold and colder settings on the heater, the rear windscreen wiper doesn't work, it's covered in a inch thick layer for crap, parts of the trim are stuck on with electrical tape. It does a little piddle every time you fire it up and have to wipe oil from the underside of the bonnet and top it up once a week.......thing is I love it, I sometimes think about selling it and getting a nicer well looked after one but why??? maybe I love it because I get the enjoyment out of it without panicking somets gonna happen to it?

I've never understood this notion. Like Ruddy says if you save it, someone else will end up benefitting. A tidy concourse car has 15-20 years in it for sunny day use if not more. Enjoy it properly and re-restore it once it's off the boil. Now my tc is no concourse car, it never will be, but I'm hoping I drop some jaws having a damn good giggle in it with people saying " you can't do that in one of them ! "

dodgy old fords at the end of the day

trouble is son being a greedy b'stard having two cars I found last year that the mex got neglected. Decided to just use it this year, saves cleaning 2 or going weeks without using one of them.

              spot on Lee

mine will be concours standard when it's done, it will get used and it will deteriate, but hopefully it will only be a regular nip n tuck for 10 years or so before I have to take it apart proper

the original post is one of the reaons I sold my mk2 in my sig, it was lovely and very good, but it wasnt perfect, the only way of making it perfect (or close as) would have been a full strip down then I would have had 2 escorts in bits but the mk2 was good enough to keep using no problems so as I couldnt handle the imperfections I sold it

the mexico I'm building from scratch to be my perfect car (doubt it will be anyone elses) but it doesnt matter I'll use it and abuse it and enjoy it
              Cheers Glyn
