  • Real or Replica

Considering the cars avalable for sale on various sites there seems to be some confusion as to what is real and what is a replica.
In my view a Mexico reshelled into a 1100 pop is no longer a Mexico ,,,same with other RS cars

So,,,,How can prospective buyers tell the difference

Maybe we can produce a tick list of what to look for from the knowlege of the more experenced members on here

Guess the most popular will be Mexicos and RS2000s

I would be interested in peoples view of the "heritage" re-shells on the MG's.It seems to enhance the value of those cars?

              simple really

              original shell = original car
              re-shell = non original car
heritage shell = non original car
rally cars re-shelled = non original rally car

All the shells are the same though . Provided a base shell has all the correct type 49 parts fitted to it then it's ok for a restored rs to be called an rs in my opinion .
So the best term for them is Triggers broom , lol .
sigpic 2.1 ATMO YB POWER .
Tick tock goes the clock and the clock don't lie .
12.4sec to 109mph With NO turbo , NO gay trailer , NO slicks , NO gas , NO race fuel and NO bits missing . Beat that !!!!

RS no longer stands for Rallye Sport
Anything wearing an RS badge, approach it as a Re-Shell

Seriously though, people looking to buy genuine Mk1 & 2 RS Escorts will usually speak to the relative club for that marque.
One because the car may already be known to the club & two you will get all the buying advice you need.
Escpecially when it comes to identifying if a car is original or not.

There is far more than just a type 49 stregthening kit to a proper RS Escort.
                    Mark....

I'm sure skilled bodywork people could strip a rotten mexico etc and then cut off/copy/replace the extra RS bits during a resto and make it look right . I would say that 99% of restored RS's would have had this done to them seeing as they usually fell too bits after 10 years of road use .
