Not wanting to come across as Kenny Everet's Character "Reg the DIYer"
But spent a few lovely hours in Warrington A&E with a nice deep cut to the back of my left hand caused by a shattered 4 inch steel cutting disc.
Brand new disc and being used properly. Thankfully I was wearing proper leather gloves, overall's and safety glasses. Might have looked a t**** but the gloves did there job. The left hand glove had the back ripped open as the blade shards went through it but must have took some of the blow.
I had both hands on the top of the grinder but the blade just went everywhere (Brand new too).
A clean up, xray, removal of some of the shards/bone, 15 stitches later, a whole lot of blood and I was on my way.
It caught the bone, cut right through the flesh and missed the tendon by about a mm reckoned the surgeon!!
I was very lucky really. Might have lost half my hand or some fingers if was not wearing them according to the staff. NHS, did a cracking job too.
SO WEAR THE RIGHT STUFF!!!
Funnily enough, I actually heard the bang and felt nothing apart from a tingle, bloody sore a few hours later mind!!!
I've gotten a bit safer in my later years too!! Make me shudder to think of what we used to do!
