IIRC it didn't seem to harm the prices of MGBs when the bodyshells became available, though it did seem to increase the number of 'chequebook restorations' where some buyers just wanted a 'brand new' car. Probably not likely to recoupe the costs, but then that's often the case anyway with major restorations.
Incentive to sell mine sooner rather than later though, as I've been wrong before.
See it before I believe it..... still be high demand for the non shell related items and certainly for at least the next decade cant see an influx of new shells on the market making any negative effect on the value of 'original' restored cars.
I just cannot believe that Ford hasn't seen the potential of this, I mean, I know they don't want to get involved with producing new cars, i.e. type approval, but selling these as service shells would be OK and they could control the supply. This would mean that the shells could be similar but not identical, so that log bog rebuilds could be spotted straight away.

they wouldnt be interested as they wouldnt sell that many so to tool up a production they would loss millions of pounds
They could get the pressings made up in China, who cares if the Chinese copy that technology?
BTW, where's the clipping from, what magazine?
As title Classic Car Weekly ,I was the same as Mexico Mark and thought someone would have raised it on here last week. I saw it when I got my copy a week last Friday but was away on Hols with no Computer
Is this the same company that "old school racer" looked into getting to make shells last year?
long running thread on this already.
I don't think it is hence the reason I posted a separate thread instead of jumping on old school racers thread.
From reading the article it looks like this company are going to get the shells made in Taiwan.
old school racer got his wings done in China.
To be honest I think it will take a while just to take a shell apart & measure everything.
The article says they don't have a Mk2 shell yet, so I think to have new shells in the UK next year is a bit optomistic.
Would FORD object to these shells being built or would they have to be built under licence?. I know parts of the vehicle is remanufactured but not the whole shell assembled from new!

Well, they objected to every bugger and his dog producing Escort, Capri etc stripe kits...hence there's only the one officially Ford licensed supplier now.
If they go pear-shaped over a bit of sticky vinyl, I imagine they'll react rather unfavourably to somebody manufacturing and retailing new bodyshells without prior full permission being granted.
