New gearbox, cheers custom!

Dave has rebuilt from scratch a type 9 , with burtons semi helical gearkit, all new bearings, synchros etc.
It's F***in mint
Ratios 2.48 ,1.61,1.23,1, .82 running a 4.1 diff.
1st 2nd 3rd, sound like a heavily muted straight cut, all the smiles non of the headache, 4th is quiet, 5th was the longer quieter option.
Was running a v6 box before (very good, no problems i should add) , this has slightly longer 2nd and 3rd, and considerably longer 1st, as i've just found hitting 50 at 8grand lol.
Cheers Mr Custom, crackin job at the right money, and i can now drain my oil from the bottom
Any 4/5 speedgearbox, english/atlas diff builds , Daves yer man!

Good to hear that the gearbox is bedding in nicely and Mikes Atlas axle is working correctly

I have ordered a 20 Tonne floor press so will be easy now to do half shaft bearings, gearbox, axles etc etc

Working for myself I have to turn my hand to most things

It is funny though how some "firms" talk a good job and charge a rather hefty fee for what is really a "normal" mechanics task

Way to many garages are nowadays employing "fitters" and not mechanics

They seem too eager to replace and not bother to repair or rebuild

All the Old Skool skills are rapidly vanishing

I suppose it's better to be safe than sorry with regard to the bearing, better to swap it before the whole thing was built up rather than having to pull it all apart again after it was fitted. It didn't sound/feel that bad but it just wasn't right, the best way to describe it was that it didn't feel new. If I come across any "off cuts" of tube etc that may come in handy with the press I'll store them in my site box in the boot of my car until I drop round again.
