can some one explain why diesel is dearer than petrol , when its a by product of petrol. ie all the shit that is left from the good stuff ?

and when the fuel runs out does that mean that great britain will be broke , as they wont be able to tax the car user any more ? and thus a very large sum of cash will not be there any more .

I hate to say this but they have us over a barrel..to avoid the petrol companies mentioned I'd have to pay even more because they're selling the cheapest in out town atm..and I fear Kermit is going to be greedy

...and now to show just how long I've been driving my first gallon (note gallon not litre) of petrol was 35p and to fill my car up cost £2.00

It's easy to make this happen. Just forward this email, and buy your petrol at Shell, Asda,Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons Jet etc. i.e. boycott BP and Esso
Erm Esso (Exxon) and BP are not one...Think they got mixed up with BP joining with Mobile, only for them to split and join Exxon), BP did buy out Ammco though.

Most of the road fuel used in the UK comes from 8 refinery's in the UK. 1 Esso/ExxonMobile, BP did own 2 but sold them, some imports arrive to our shores via terminals . Most service stations buy their fuel from a refinery close to them or a local terminal, e.g. Esso Fawley could provide a lot of fuel in the south to lots of service stations that are not Esso. So they will still sell product to other companies. I work at a refinery in Essex on the Thames that provides road fuel to 1 in 4 or 5 vehicles in the south east & London. Tankers go out to Shell,BP,Jet,Murco, supermarkets and other service stations. The only thing different is the additive pack put in during loading the tankers.

The producers of the crude is where the money is, and oil traders set the market price. As it has been pointed out the Gov. make most and they don't even have to get there hands dirty....

Sure, its supply and demand....over the last few years the demand for diesel has gone up and up. Refinery's do not have shit left over, the process is a lot more complicated than fractional distillation (boil oil). The refining process is pretty amazing, just short of alchemy. One of the units that I work on (Cat Cracker) turns heavy tar like substance into gasoline....Another type unit (not where I work) called a Hydro Cracker does pretty much the same thing but makes diesel instead. Refining capacity in the UK is a bit short of diesel making plant so some has to be imported, thus it could be said that gasoline is a by product of diesel !!!!!!!!!!

All in all fuel is pretty cheap before tax. When you think it has to be found, got out of the ground, transported, refined, transported again, then sold in a shop.

Protests will do jack all, the government will again do jack all, just look at the recent student protests!

fuel prices are crazy, I filled up the other night at Tesco, Diesel cost over £78 (130.9p), that will last me a week. Just glad the company pays and not me, altho I had to put petrol & LPG in the ST the other day and LPG was 82p/litre

Still found a Calor place round the corner @ 62p/litre so not so bad now

As they say, it can only get worse, we in this country don't complain enough, just moan and keep paying up.. what would the French do .. blockade everything oh and strike!!

I thought for one moment you were older than me.When i worked on Vauxhall Velox,Wyvern and Cresta cars,i ran a Vauxhall 12,and just before i left the garage trade in 1960 Cleveland Discol 5 star (99 octane) was 4 shillings and ten pence a gallon, that was 19shillings and 4 pence for 4 gallons. Diesel trucks were just starting to become in,and we were taking 6 cylinder petrol engines out of Bedford "O" type trucks and fitting either Perkins P6 or R6 diesel engines.

The problem is with people and not the price of road fuel, just about everyone in the UK is far better off than you were in the 70's or 80's. We have far more money and far more things to spend our money on, think back to the mid 80's when Maggie the milk pincher almost finished us all off. Most house's did not have 1. a telephone 2. a Car yes most of us did not even have 1 car between a family 3. you had a TV but it was black and white if you wanted a colour one Granada were the people and it had a 10p slot on the side.

What have we all got now
Most houses have 1 car per adult, phone lines and broadband, colour TV's in every room, Sky TV, Computers, DVD players, Play stations the list could go on and on. The majority of people in the UK have never had it so good, granted some people are losing their jobs but I did just over 2 years ago and did I moan and go to and ask for a hand out no. I started a business and I also do some casual work for another company driving fuel tankers when my work is slow.

Fuel is cheap when you see the amount of people driving about because they have nothing better to do with their time than to get in the way of people that are trying to do a days work...
