  • My Welsh Tour 2010

Well what can I say 105 miles to get there (no Range Rover or trailer this time).
Very wet Friday night camping but excellent meal and copious amounts of ale at local pub with free taxi too and from the pub for all !
Saturday morning 09:00 briefing and away at 09:30
Superb routes and scenery even though it was very wet in the morning - cleared up a bit later
Off to Electric Mountain for a sedate thrash on a private road to the top of the reservoir in dense fog
On next leg to Cricieth we all did a circuit of the towns Market area - lol - the looks on the locals faces was priceless as loads of old Fords passed by.
Then onto the next venue and I get severe issues with coming out of all gears and a horrible whine.,bang and screeching from the transmission.
Decide to hit "home" (campsite) on the TomTom - load up tent and kit and then head from campsite to attempt to get home before something fails permanently.
Get home without to much problems and then off to workshop.
Aim to remove gearbox so off with the prop.
Find diff input bearing hanging off so remove diff (English axel) to find bearing has worn through bearing race.
New bearings and rebuild diff tomorrow and then strip gearbox to see why gear selection is naffed.
So early bath for me but bring it on next year - great company and the routes were awesome with plenty of areas to stretch your legs

Many thanks to Aled and Dave and anyone else who assisted for all the hard work and effort that goes into organising such an event.

    2011 I'm in please !

glad you got home ok dave, sorry to hear your woes, well surprising as SKC is one of the strongest road going mk2's out there.

your little legs didnt need too much stretching

could be good news on the gearbox fault

Because the prop was running so out of line due to the diff bearing failure I am hoping this was applying pressure on the gearbox output shaft - this in turn was trapping the synchros so making gearchanges awkward

Have fitted an "open" 3.54 standard diff so road test tomorrow to check gearbox

Need car on road for this weekend - Breakfast club @ RAF Cosford

Well my theory was correct - thankfully nothing wrong with the gearbox

Having been to the Breakfast Club meet this morning then across to Curborough to spectate the sprint event held there all is well with the car

Cossie Si in the passenger seat and off we went down the M54

Gave it a little blast and all was well

Great turnout at Cosford by many varied cars and the museum was worth the visit

On way from Cosford to Curborough had another blast

All I can say is that the 3.54 diff was superb on the motorway with the straight cut gearbox
