Vintage car and trailer stolen hours before Cumbrian rally

Last updated at 13:17, Tuesday, 31 August 2010

A £20,000 vintage rally car was stolen just hours before it was due to compete in the Pendragon event at Penrith.
The Ford Escort Mk2 and the trailer were attached to a Transit van parked overnight in Garthshead Road, Appleby, on Saturday.
When the owner, visiting Cumbria from Northallerton, returned at 9am on Sunday to go to the rally, he found the trailer and the car had been taken.
The vintage Mk2 Escort has the registration YTN 359V and has the number 83 emblazoned on its side. The transport trailer’s registration is M11 AWG.
Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Fox at Appleby on 0845 3300247.

This is aweful news, but thieves know where and when rallies are taking place and definately target them as they know valuable cars will be parked up with minimum security
        Cheers

Hope it gets found, you have to be so carefull these days, even so on events where an overnight stay is called for, i sleep in the van with the car, a B and B would be nicer but even though the car's insured and it's my mate's i just couldn't leave it anywhere, some thieving git would be on to it.
Could someone post some pics and spec up and we can all keep our eyes open.

Totally agree with you there mate, tbh I trust no one (not literally) but you know what I mean, when it comes to leaving any escort somewhere...its a good kind of paranoia I suppose

As said pics would help if anyone has some...

Report has gone to the Police Steve ...by coincidence Paul was going north to Killington services to get some phone credit for the Rally when he saw a Tranny going south with a Mk 2 on the back at about 12.30am
We knew nothing about this until your post........ this also explains 83 not turning up on sunday morning!!!!!
