  • My reason for not being on track Sunday afternoon @ Croft !

Engine was suffering water being blown out at high revs so kept off the track

Still managed a run down the 0-60 and a major do-nut after the run

    Now stripped

Time for a new block methinks

Sorry to see this, but what's gone wrong there then Dave? I can see the piston looks melted but what has caused this and what damage is there to the block then?

      Piston is fine

No 4 cylinder had a liner fitted

      The liner has slipped

This allowed compression to enter the water jacket

Engine ran fine but kept blowing water out at high revs

not good dave, lucky it didnt drop further, seen a few bds where the throw of the rod has hit the base of a dropped liner

If the top ring had got over the end of the liner, some proper damage would have happened. A lucky escape

A lot worse than I had. I split a water at the end of the second session on Sunday morning and spent 2 hours in the ****ing rain changing it.

when i looked at liners for mine they said they sat in a recessed groove machined into the block so they couldn't slip or move . What holds yours in place then ?

At the moment Fairy dust !

                        Great news though !

A friendly local engineer has measured the remaining metal between the jackets and the bore at its thinnest point and can machine a recess into the block deck on No4 cylinder to put a flanged liner back in.

So all may not be lost yet.
