Kids have it easy these days.....everything on a plate I think everything is appreciated more when it has been earned and not given, otherwise the value of money will not be learnt.
I had a paper-round though it was an evening one....then I was a butchers assistant for 6 years. It really taught me a lot, especially how to deal with people.
The sad excuse used these days by parents is that they are too scared to leave their children unattended to do a paper-round for safety reasons. Well, they have legs to run away and mobile phones to call for help, which we did not have years ago. (Phones, not legs I mean )

Yes I know all about kids. Crisis with my sons car again as Mother is blowing her top telling me that the engine was blowing up, also brakes are no good. Has he checked the water lately I asked? no is the answer I got, have you not checked it? So I went out and found a leaking radiator with water all over the place....where was my son?...dissinterested and watching Ant and Dec on the TV. Rang the scrappy then drove miles in the morning only to find out that the one they had kept for me was leaking. So changed the oil on his car and stripped the front brakes on his car and found them siezed up. The following day I ordered a new radiator and fitted it....I'm still waiting for his contribution for the payment of the new radiator.
But why on earth did he not tell me about the brakes.......apparantly it's all my fault for not checking the car over all the time and nothing to do with the driver of course! He tells me that he did not even know that the water needs checking, which is hardly surprising as I could not get him any where near to under the bonnet to show him, and to accept that as it is his car and his responsability that he should be keeping an eye on the levels and how it's running. They both say, "you like working on cars so you can do it"!
Kids can put so much strain on parents relationships and they don't give a dam about it! I too was brought up that when I was at the right age I was encouraged to do things myself which I am really grateful for. When I am no longer about who will sort out his problems for him then? .....he certainly won't be able to, which I think is sad but can do nothing about it.

At 28 I'm probably one of the younger members on here yet I can totally grasp what people are saying here. I think in the last 10 years, more so in the last 5, there has been a massive change in kids/youths attitudes. They appear to have little/no respect for anyone, take little pride in anything they do and are just after an easy ride.
I had a Saturday job at 13 and worked 5 or 6 days a week during all my hols. At 16 I recall giving my mum money to help pay for things and contribute towards my living on a regular basis and this made me realise the concept of money. I would save and buy myself things as well as be treated to stuff for good behaviour. At 17 I was quite proud to be able to buy my own car all be it I was helped with the insurance.
Kids seem very reluctant to help and contribute these days and sadly more often than not one when one parent tries to enforce an issue the other parent defends. I sympathise with anyone struggling with the little terrors, god help me if Cath and I have bambino's...... I hope you will all still be on here in 10-15 years time lol.
Boot camp - it's the way forward! Lol
