Peppermint green is the rarest colour, only available on early cars though, Signal green replaced Peppermint, Tuscan and Sierra Beige are also pretty rare.

Daytona yellow is a rare mk2 colour, carried over for a short while from mk1, again replaced by Signal yellow.

I was told by someone that RS buyers paid extra for Signal colours but they were actually standard colours used on Ford commercial vehicles ?

Yes I remember this well and could not understand why Fords were charging extra (at this point can't find how much but was certainly enough) for just a brighter paint which was not evan a mettalic finish.

When I bought my first RS in 1979 I particularly remember plenty of the earlier models that were about. Most common at that time were Signal Orange and White, few Carnival Reds, the odd Daytona, odd Signal Green, Black were getting very popular, few Venetian, not so many Signal Yellow, Signal Amber was rare and so was the two Beiges, not many of the later greens, or blues, or Signal Red 80, and most rare was Midnight Blue and Terracota. During the 80's Black became the in colour to have so I've no doubt that many of the less desirable colours were resprayed black or other more favourable colours, making the the less desirable colours rarer than ever.
