I think problems occur because the "old hands" know the score regarding the whole weekend event, Tour on Saturday, static RSOC show on Sunday at Heaves Hall but a lot of "new guys" (self included last year) dont have a clue what it organised. Info is available on this site and on the RSOC but has to be looked for to get the whole picture.
I have re-built my RS and am looking forward to attending the static show on Sunday, hopefully in the area for "New restorations 09/10" Hopefully there will be quite a few more poeople doing the same?
Personally feel there arnt enough cars to admire at a lot of the RSOC shows, concourse cars are a lot thinner on the ground than they used to be I think due to now being grouped pre 80, as opossed to mk1 mex, mk1 RS2 etc. Enjoyed the registrar display at some shows but most of the cars dont have bonnets up to admire them properly.
Think the Lakes weekend is one of the best for us "Old skool RS" people

if you dont get your tour why not do your own with a few others
just a suggestion.
Maybe next year there could be a full Tour Sat with a half tour Sunday
for those who could not get the full tour just a thought
ps lot of effort goes into these events & hats off to them

Space at Heaves
Space at the stops along the route
National trust limit on tours using there areas and roads
Am sure steve and the others dont want to be waving cars off all day.
there just some reasons i can think off of the top of my head for limiting an event like this

I'm yet to do a tour myself.
But I always make a point of being at the show on Sunday.
For those that want to be involved & get the tour experience, why not start a "who wants a passenger" thread.
There's bound to be folks doing the tour that will have a spare passenger seat.
Another thought, a lot of the guys off this site camp the day before AVO National Day then have a stand at Stanford Hall on the Sunday.
What about someone organising a tour for the 19th June this year.
You could even make it a lakes tour. Pitsford Reservoir over to Grafham Water then up to Rutland Water then back to camp.
Just a couple of thoughts.Mark....

Mark - i pretty sure that camp site aint a camp site as such for 'Joe Public' - think its just a 'field' and its a 'friend of a friend' who lets a few stay there -
as for some one else organising a tour, that would be great - lets see if happens

The Tour!!
As a long suffering other half! and being a regular attendee of this fantastic weekend i just have a few things to say from a different prospective...
I have attended the last 3 Lakes Tour weekends and found the atmosphere, comradery and organisation to be second to none. !!
If you are lucky and have been confirmed to go then its the WHOLE weekend that is amazing with the show on the Sunday being the 'cherry on the cake'.
I do understand the disappointment that people may feel that are not confirmed on the actual Tour, but there is a reserve list and like they say 'if your not in it.....'.
We should all remember that Steve and Bobby use vasts amount of their own time to ensure that the tour is well organised and that most people have an enjoyable weekend with no worries. i.e the 'watering hole' is full the food is organised, car parking, security various offical bodies informed etc etc etc all for the love of the Escort
I am sure Bobby and Steve's 'to do list' is pretty mental and to sort all that out as well a working full time is what I would call 'commitment' to the cause!! This ensures that EVERYONE else has the best weekend.
I myself dont go round the tour but stay at 'base camp' enjoying the chit chat, looking round the various stands, static displays as they are being set up. Then I just wait (with glass of vino in hand) for the troops to return and then we all go on to enjoy a fantastic evening of good company
From a woman of very little words (normally!! ) but I am sure someone will beg to differ on that point! LOL

In fact there is one right next door.
Just need someone who's willing to sort out a tour for that area.
Jules, well said. John did introduce me to you at Heaves last year.
I will agree that you seemed to be a little quiet. Maybe that was to much Vino the previous night.Mark....
