The woman and i are currently renovating our first house and are having one of these fitted. They burn very very efficiently (as long as you dont get one that is too big for the room you are trying to heat..... its better to have one too small as it will burn stronger to try and compensate whereas a large one wont burn hot enough)

we are going to get one of those kits that take old newspaper etc and mould it into blocks to burn .... will work out a very cheap way of heating the room

make sure you get a multi fuel burner so you have freedom of what you can chuck in there

i 've fitted a couple into houses and been back to check on them most people fit a 4 kw or a 6kw one depending on the size of the room there is also one i think from 8kw upwards and it has a boiler in the back for your hot water have spoken to those who put one in for and they say that they are very economical and give out a lot of heat

forgot to add the last one i fitted was a 4kw one and any heat loss up the chimney was diverted back out into the room this one was just for burning wood only

we had one fitted here, great heat, ripped it out tho as we were told the chimney needed a steel liner fitted, even tho the stainless stack was a few metres high....reverted back to the old open fire in the end, cant beat them this time of year

the chimney will take either dave as its not been altered since the original log fire was in place, however thinkthe log burner might be a little safer with a 2 yearold and baby on its way??
