just wondering as I'm now the registered owner do i have to sorn the mex its been of the road since 1991 before this sorn thingy started any ideas donnt want any grief when it comes to actually taxing or when pigs fly whichever comes first

If the vehicle has not been taxed prior to SORN being "invented" then you are not eligible to apply for SORN

But to be 100% sure simply send a SORN form into DVLA and see if they send you a confirmation letter back

It would be easier to try and sorn it on line. All you need is the doc. ref. off the v5c and of course the car details, and do it on the DVLA site. If it lets you do it, it needed done, and if it doesn't let you do it, it doesn't need done. Simples

It will let you do it (whether the car is eligible or not) but you still do not get an official letter of confirmation even though you can print off the online acceptance of the application if the car is not able to be SORN'd.

I have to disagree Dave, it won't let you do it if it aint eligable, I tried it when I owned BEV. I wanted to make the number harder to steal, but couldn't. If you can do it, supply your email address and you get sorn confirmation on line as you proof.

SORNed my car online, you enter the numbers as requested from the log book, and you also get a letter of confirmation, dead easy.

Do you have the new style V5c or the old one? the numbers on the old log books dont work, has to be the new V5c numbers, went through this last month with a sierra i bought with the old type log book

I understood when SORN was first introduced, that if the car was off the road untaxed before Sorn was introduced then there was no need to SORN it. Once you have taxed the car after the SORN was introduced, then that switches in the requirement that it has to be SORNed whenever in the future it is untaxed and off the road. I have never been made aware or seen any changes since.

                            Tim.
