Feel for you lot oop north, across the border and the sea. Been watching it on the news last couple of days . Hope you are all ok

I live high up in the Chiltern Hills and it would have to be a Noah's Ark type of flood to affect me thankfully

I've never seen rain and flooding like it. It took me 4 hours to get out of Cumbria yesterday! Eventually gave up trying to get to a meeting in South Wales as I'd have arrived 3 hours late. I turned back at Preston and headed home. Unfortunately about 4pm, I was one of the very last cars to have a chance of getting through a flooded A66 at Keswick (Portinscale Junction). I got half way through the Derwent Water and Bassentwaite lake extension (100m plus flooded section) when I was hit by a bow wave from a lorry! My car lifted and lost traction then proceeded to cough splutter and die!!! Being in a 5 series with lowered suspension proved to be my downfall. I ended up getting out (looking like a tw#t)with the water lapping on the sills and having to push my car back towards Keswick, in my suit and all! Two Highways guys gave me a push onto the pavement just on the edge of the flooded section. Tried to start the car again it would start but then died. The exhaust had filled up! After I'd waited about an hour or so watching a few larger vehicles get through with several cars trying their luck as well, more and more cars coming from ****ermouth side began to get stuck. Then some idiot towing a caravan decided to try his luck. He was told by everybody not to even attempt it, as expected he proceeded to get stuck right next to two cars stuck on the other side of the road. The A66 was then blocked.
Once I convinced myself it was water in the exhaust by checking if there was any back pressure on starting, tried again to start it again. Eventually got it to start and rev past 1000rpm. Whoopee! Thank god for Diesel BMW's.
Got turned round and headed for a hotel in Penrith, as all routes to the West were blocked. Writing this after having n early morning alarm call from reception - one I haven't ordered!! What a f##king 24hrs!!

Just pleased as it appears that nobody has died. This is the worst weather I've seen here for a long time and boy we get some wet weather here!

The rain has died down for now, but more is expected in the next 48hrs

I'm lucky as I live quite high up, but my old house in Warwick Bridge had a large stream that ran round the side of the house and through the close and the river has burst it's banks but not sure if my old house has been flooded or not!!

Praying that this isn't a repeat of 2005
                    Cheers

Sad day in West Cumbria today with the death of a local PC helping people in the floods

Had to travel out today to deliver a car, this meant a drive passed ****ermouth, at this time I was not aware of the scale of the flooding, we are about 10 mile from ****ermouth and 5 from Workington. Our internet has been down all day.

As I approached ****ermouth on the main road traffic began to slow and I presumed it was roadworks, was not prepared for the site that I came across

This is usually a calm river set well down in the fields, there is a very wide field between it and the road. My passenger took these pics

Hope theres no one in the hut

At this point I am crossing a bridge hoping it is stable

On the way back the true scale hit us as we heard the news updates on local radio then came across a helicopter hovering beside the road lifting someone off their rood in a house lower down. I was very relieved to get back to a dry Whitehaven but felt for those in ****ermouth and Workington.
