  • BDA Builder

    Hi all,

Fairly soon i am going to be able to afford to build a brand new BD for my historic Mk1 RS2000.

After alot of deliberation i am fairly sure we will go with a BD as opposed to a Warrior.

I would like ot ask other people who are running BD's for stage rallying who they use and their experiences.

I will probably do about 4-6 events a year, which is what i am currently doing.

I have done some single venue to get my licence upgraded to Nat A so i could get to Belguim. I went and did the Monteberg Sprint, but bad luck meant an early bath sadly, so we were forced to go on the beer instead.

My main interest lies in tarmac rallying and i think i will try and do at least 2 events next year in Belguim and then anything else i think looks attractive.

So as i want to go with a BD, i need to find someone to build me one from scratch.

    Who is using who?

Plus, i notice that a fair number of the BHRC lads are running BD instead of Warrior now, why have people abandoned the warrior?

I've never heard a bad word said about Paul Gardner

He's more than capable of putting brand new BD's together & will build to suit your requirements.

              ht racing.

I've seen a few new BDs being built at HT racing

Everything from a 1300cc screamer to a new parts BD.

The labour will be a very good price compaired to most.,just don't expect it done over night

And it will be dyno'ed ready to fit.

              Based in brands hatch.

Skids - Banner's Bd was built by Jondell or Paul G?

I take it from Darran's comments, HTR work at a pace that could be described as "glacial"?

Depends if you want a professional engine shop to do it or a home engine builder . A home engine builder is much cheaper than a pro-engine shop (by a few grand ) so worth considering . The fellow who builds my engines lives in Brighton and his works all machined by Julian Godfrey race engines which is regarded as one of the UK's no1 machine shops . He's a very nice approachable chap and has built lots of race BDA engines over many years . If you what too save a fortune then just say and i'll give you his number .
sigpic 2.1 ATMO YB POWER .
Tick tock goes the clock and the clock don't lie .
12.4sec to 109mph With NO turbo , NO gay trailer , NO slicks , NO gas , NO race fuel and NO bits missing . Beat that !!!!

As far as i am concerned i want to spend whatever i need to spend in order to get a good reliable unit which if treated correctly will last the distance.

What i don't want to do is spend the thick end of 20k and end up with an unreliable turd.

As i see it, testimonials are only useful if you are comparing apples with apples ie, the intended purpose of the engine is for proper competition.

At the end of the day you have to make your decision on your own.

I am also keen to know what experiences people have had with aftersales.

Do people have to get the new bits and bobs from Wilcox? i gather they are the suppliers of new blocks etc.

Jondell does all Banners Engines and built the Warrior in Stivies Escort.
