Standard spec escort cossies were shite anyway , the new transit van will be faster than a standard escort cossie no doubt . The new focus would be awesome with some more firepower to push it along the straight bits . I'm not sure if the volvo engine's upto the job of 400bhp without spitting it's insiders out though . It's probably made of chocolate like those mazda duratec things that ford also forced on us !!!!!

IMO when your driving the wife n kids down the motorway and a polish lorry driver side swipes you need a bit of strength and safety in your new rs focus.

The fact that ford are making a good looking, innovative design (revo knuckle), 300bhp rs is A Good Thing. If you want it lighter its easy enough to take stuff out!!!

I absolutely love me mk1/2 escorts but as an everyday car the new focus rs would be a dream for me

Fords could/might do a proper RS version with some of the comforts deleted (air con , airbags, cup holders, sat nav , electric windows etc etc) and then fit some lightweight panels etc and up the power a bit more to 350bhp . This would surely save 150 kilos and make it cheaper too build + buy as well as making it faster . They could call the slow version a "custom" and the faster lighter version a "RS350" or something . Then stick a £5 numbered plague on the dash and get some street cred back and the collectors dashing for their cheque books !!!!!!

I like the look of the new Focus RS especially in Green. Wouldnt buy a new one though too expensive and maybe a few gremlins will appear. Be good to buy one when they are a couple of years old less money and probs sorted.

Well Renault seem to be selling there "stripped out" versions quite well so I dont see why Ford could'nt, although you still would'nt like it coz it would'nt be "comfy" enough........your worse than my missus Gaz

Well a turbo Focus is definately shite compared to one .

The Renault's acceleration is still quite slow as well (14.0secs) but at least it's faster than the Focus . It's more desirable as well i reckon but i'd still rather spend the £22,000 on an old Escort !!!!

By the way , i'm not a Focus hater as i like it (in green) i'm just dissapointed it's so foooookin heavy and gutless . It will probably feel quick when you drive it (turbos always do due to their whooooosh bang power delivery ) but the clock don't lie . It has a great chassis though and corners fast so at least that's something to be pleased about i suppose . It's a bit like the old classic BMW E30 M3 from the late 1980's . That also had a great chassis but went like an old donkey so i didn't buy one of those either !!!!!

Now, me being just into my 40's, I like comfort, safety (Kids and wife) Quietness etc. The Focus ticks all those boxes with looks and pedigree to die for. Most of the people who will be buying these cars will be like me. Fords target market for the car So, Job nicely done I think. Stripped out noisy uncomfortable break your back make you deaf death traps that guide you towards the nearest tree with daft power delivery are for the Boy racer brigade or as an occasional weekend/track/fun car. Certainly NOT for everyday use with families etc....................
