Let's look closer at these 5x R888 pointers then :
        1. do not drive your car in the freezing cold
        2. never park your car in the freezing cold , fit radiators in your garage
        3. only buy and have these tyres fitted to your wheels in the summer months
        4. don't park your car up for more than a few weeks
5.don't move your car after you've parked it for a few weeks

That just about sums it up then , lol !!!!!!

They are much better but will still get banned in 2012 . At least the tread don't fall off them when it gets cold though .

Sub-zero temperatures also cause R888's rubber tread too come off . Moral of the story is they are shite , lol !!!!!!!
I have to say they seemed OK to in standing water at Croft - I was passing folk on road tyres and it was shotting it down

and those guidance notes are for the US so I'm suprised they haven't added "don't put your foot in front of the wheel and drive over it" etc. US is a litigation country to these instruction are way OTT just in case. I parked the XR up in October, without deflating the tyre etc. and then took the cover off in June and all was well.

Having said all of that though I wouldn't run them as an everyday tyre as that's not what they're for, or any other road legal track day tyre for that matter, but they do the biz on the track and again, you don't tend to do too many track days in sub zero temps (at least I don't)

It seems a bit OTT to legislate for track day tyres though - how many people use em across the country compared to normal road tyres ????

I think they're just worried about all the high performance trackday type cars that drive on the road with specialist dry weather rubber fitted on them when it's cold + wet . Lets face it you have racing wet tyres and racing dry tyres for tracks and street tyres need to be for all weathers for obvious reasons . Proper street tyres need too clear X amount of water from under the tyre so they need wider deeper grooves compared to the new trackday rubber that's about .
I've had trackday rubber on mine for a while and it's been alright in the wet but no where near as good as it is with proper street tyres on it . I don't drive mine fast in the wet so that's probably saved me but it's a dangerous game if you need to perform an emergency stop one day and end up sliding sideways into something cos the tyres can't clear enough standing water from underneath them .
In a way i'm glad they're banning them really and i've took mine off now anyway so don't care !!!!!!

It sorta makes sense but would be shame not to be able to get them for the track - may end up trying slicks after all

We have run 888's on our 205 track car for years and the car is outside all year round in sub zero temps when we get them and never had any problems tbh.
Have even found on track in the wet they feel as good as road tyres too.

Guess it won't matter once they are not available though...............
