My work unit is in a small industrial estate, I`ve had the Mex in whilst the seats were out getting re-done, have an MOT and a couple of jobs, the cars been there about 2 weeks.
I was at work this morning at 8.00am and all was well, got a call from my landlord (garage owner) at 4pm saying someone had attempted to ramraid the garage to get at the Mex.
They cut the padlocked gate to get into the compound, broke into the bodyshop (4th roller shutter door, end one) thinking they would get into the rest of the garage. Last unit is self contained. After realising they could`nt get at the car, they rammed the 3rd roller shutter door (my car is directly behind it), smashed the door open and managed to get it open about 4ft but jammed it so it would`nt open fully. Markings on the roller shutter indicate a recovery truck reversing at speed into it.
So the thieving scum are now inside the garage, but something must have happened as they got no further.
NOTHING REMOVED FROM THE GARAGE - PLENTY OF EXPENSIVE EQUIPMENT AROUND - NEVER TOUCHED A THING.
Unfortunately my car got damaged on the front and rear as the vehicle dong the ramming went throught the door and shunted the Mex foreward.
Nothing too serious - damaged bootlid, rear quarter, reversing light on the rear, and damaged quarter bumper/bracket on the front.
THIS HAPPENED BETWEEN 8 AM AND 2PM TODAY.
In view of this I`d like to as everyone who stores their car where there is the slightest possibility of anyone getting anywhere near it to think seriously about upgrading your security.
Locked gate, compound close to town centre and car parked inside a garage seriously locked down - middle of the day.
i FEEL VERY LUCKY TO STILL HAVE A CAR TONIGHT.
