A few of the boys were talking down here last night about the state of Escort world downunder and the lack of cars due to the shipping out of cars to the UK.

The question is would a repro shell like they make for the 60's
Mustang for the Mk1 and Mk2 be a winner.

I know that there is an argument about reshelling cars in the Uk, BUT considering the amount of work that some cars have to have done to be "restored" a new shell is not far from what is being done currently.

How many of you have had to replace significant amounts of the shell due to rot.

The rally guys out there may have a view on this.

the next question is How much is it worth and under what circumstances should a reshelled car be consider "genuine"

    your thoughts?

It would be great if there were new shells to buy . Plenty of new shells available for other classic cars (minis, mg's , etc) so lets pray some millionaire gets a mk1/2 escort press tooled up

lets just say all of the above goes on in some form or another -

i guess the bad ones get picked up for what they are - the good ones are the ones nobody knows about cos the owners never let on to whats happening/happened to the car

there must be a fair few of each out there - if metal could talk eh ?

so are there any millionaires on here then?

put it this way the conclusion down here was that we need to do something but more the point we're running out of the run of the mill things. ie indicators switches etc. and there's virtually no NOS stuff down here.

Also they fitted large plastic wings and gave a basic coat of white paint to cover up all the mess when reshelling the cars
