Most desirable classic car sports models are "triggers brooms" anyway and as the years roll on more and more will turn into these . Porsche 911 RS's , Sunbeam Lotus' , chevette HSR's , Fiat 131 Abarth's , etc etc etc all get the same treatment i'm affraid .
Gaz I get where you are coming from, BUT it's not the real deal if that's done, its a creation surely??
As long as its made clear to the future buyer's as people do get shafted that know no better. That for me is the bit that's wrong!

Yes John i agree but you'll never know for sure when you buy one . When Mexicos were worthless they gave up their shells for BDA's , Twin cams and RS2000's as these cars were always worth more money . As the mexico shells dried up people used the more readily available 1100 + 1300 bodyshells , these shells are usually in far better condition as they weren't owned by boy racers and rally drivers . Rot in the type 49 shells was hidieous in the early 1980's , they would break in half when you jacked them up !!!!!!!

Yes a MK3 but surely they will become favourite cars for some for example there cannot be many XR3i's around they had a great following. I am not a huge fan as I prefer the MK1 and 2's but thats because I am an old git.

Yes mk3's have a cult following and will be worth alot of money . They suffer from rust bad though and will be getting re-shelled left , right and centre at present . They aren't worth enough money to justify a total resto so buying a £500 mint 1300 pop is the way the owners are going . The mk3 is a terrible design , it has no gutters on the front wings so all the rain water runs off the bonnet and windscreen into the engine bay and lays on the bulkhead . This rots out the bulkhead and water runs into the cabin rusting the floors out . Then they've got a gay bodykit that traps all the shit and that holds moisture and rots all the sills and arches out . So if buying an RS turbo take a magnet !!!!!!!

That's a great idea mate , fill the loft with mk3 Escort panels and it's better than a pension for sure . They rust worst than Mk1/2 Escorts so you'll need a big loft !!!!!!!

i bought the wife a really good xr3i cabby for £300 quid last year.no rot in the usual places.all it needed was a sump and i bought another car for £100 and it had a nearly new roof on it.

it sits next to my RS in the garage gathering dust and getting filled with more and more junk.but it is a fun car and its cheap for now and i wont lose any money on it!
