I used a peugeot speedfight 100cc for 8 years back and forward to work in all seasons.
I wouldnt touch any of the imports because you wont get spares easily when the go off the boil.
I have seen new speedfights for £1600 on ebay.,alternatively get a low mileage used one .
They require minimal maintenance being 2 strokes, do 55mph beat everything in traffic, park them for free , you can sell them easily (sold 2 lately in less than 24 hours of being advertised), cost me £5 a week on petrol
Downsides
Sorts out the men from the boys in winter
You need proper gear for safety Get a yellow builders reflective jacket.
Muppets try and steal them if left in dodgy areas or outside at night.
forget motorways
Idiot Blind Car drivers.
I have now gone back to using a car due to promotion at work but miss the scooter badly.

agreed as above. i used a speedfight for work last year. very cheap to run, and great through the traffic jams in town.
as for import things, lad at my work had one, managed to brake the exhaust on it. could not get a replacement part anywhere. think he ended up scrapping the whole thing.
go for the speedfighter.
Reliability and spares are a big problem with the chinese twist and gos . Why not step up to a vintage Lambretta, I have a guy I do Business with in Leeds that brings in fully restored Gp scooters from India, I bought some from him to sell along side some of our own restorations. his ebay user name is lambrettasparesdirect if you are interested his name is Gordon.P1020749 [50%] [50%].jpg
this is a picture of some of our own restored Lambrettas
