  • best driving road

I think its something we all have, that road that just begs you to drive quickly, brake late, cut corners, maximum revs in the gears. Tbh I have got a couple but I'll start with the A class road (A39?) from Minehead to Lynmouth in Devon through Porlock in either direction. Fast straights, sweepers with good sight lines, light traffic out of season, some tighter corners and see views.
    Whats yours?

thats weird, was only thinking of this today and was going to put a post up

as you ask then, i got three

1st - Rhayader to Cwmystwyth (Elan valley road used to take you to Myherin stages) awesome bit of road - some BIG drops, smooth tarmac, great views

2nd - Tregaron to Abergwesyn (via Tywi forest) just a minor road into the forests west of Builth Wells - great single track lanes through forests, over moorlands and very up and down

3rd - B3081 Sixpenny Handley to Shaftesbury (via Zig Zag hill) just up the road from Bournemouth - lovely drive on top of the Cranbourne Chase then into the 4 'monte carlo' zig zag hairpins (will be used in the southern tour,((whenever that happens))

Porlock is a bit Iffy, if I remember it right as a child.

I agree we used to take this road from Alston where my father in law owned a pub down to Penrith and on to M6 . ran down here in a 3.2 litre 911 Carrera back in 87 , very fast run through the hairpins, very enjoyable. There was a lot of bikers using it back then
