Cheers lads, looks like I am going to busy lookingthorugh that lot today then!

I do need something that is relatively narrow for storage when not in use. It wont be getting used that often so light weight is probably most important.

Do the figures 1200 on a BJ trailer refer to the weight then? I shall have to investigate.

How about them Escort dimesnsions then?

Would be looking at Arched Mk1 by the way, as well as other cars of course. If its just afew hundred quid more for a better quality then its worht it in the long run I suppose.

Tilt bed seem to be the way forward going by you words. So will stick that on the must have list.

Never thought it would be this difficult to buy a trailer!

      Cheers for now

      Dave...

        Try www.batesontrailers.com

I have got a Bateson PT56, had it a year now and its a super bit of kit. Too big for what you want, but I would recommend giving Brian up at Bateson's a ring and having a chat about your requirements. He is helpful and has a good knowledge of their products, sure if they do something to suit you he will know.
I bought mine on the strength of a friend who runs 3 in a fleet delivering all over the south of England, hired 1 of his a few times, it towed well and considering the abuse it had had was still well up together.

        Happy pondering!

First job is measure over the outside of the tyre/wheels at the widest, and give a couple of inches extra, that will dicide the width you need minimum. I think B.J. 1200 means 1200 load capacity, but check the specs. A quick look at the website says they now do 1000, and 1350.

An escort will be about 1000kg minimum, so aim at 1200kg+ load capacity.

The Amax is a good design idea but it is rivetted together, and that gives the risk that if anything works loose there is nothing to be done, but take it back to be fixed. PRG are doing a similar flat bed ramps under now, not sure of the fixings.

Tilt is fine, but adds weight. My PRG has a very bad ramp location, which means you have to kneel in a the mud to secure!

What are you towing with by the way?

If you go for B.J. I would say, take care of it & do not lend it to anyone, as they are not so tough as Bateson etc. That is a good practice anyway [they always seem to come back with a light missing or something]. Further reasons to buy new as well.

Also on early B.J. clubman they had a pressed hitch, and thin A frame, if you tried to wind it up on the jockey wheel with a car on, it all bent!! later ones seem to have a hitch with the jockey wheel in the hitch rather than on the A frame. None of this applies to the A series as was and now is I think 'Auto trailer'

Oh yes there are a lot of European makers as well............. But a lot are wheels under which give a higher centre of gravity [but may fit ion the garge] Brenderup for starters...

          You will regret asking...

My dad's got a brian james hydraullic tilt bed, 4 wheel with spare wheel rack on etc. 14x6.
Has had an Evo 8 on it -and a sapphire - both just fit. Escort fits easy.
Cant recall what he paid but he looked round a lot and figured BJ worked out ok all things considered. Wheel rack and storage box useful for track days when there is extra fuel and stuff to carry.
Does take up a lot of room though and he reckons they can be a liability theft wise................HTH.

Go to the manufacturer nearest to you and have good look. [Best High St in Britain is no clue for me!! ]. And/or have good nose round all the trailers you see at a meeting, and make some notes/talk to owners.
