    Davie, that would be Kyle Ross, he was a mechanic at the time at Andrew Forresters Austin Rover garage in Coaltown of Balgonie, I worked there at the time washin princesses, itals and allegros... the shame
    Can't remember the reg of it but it was a nice car, he used to run around with Jim Kennedy and Jock Convey who had black uns, I seem to recall myself, Andy and Cammy taking their name in vain for being in "that RS Owners club"

      Got my first escort in 1977 an ex hillclimb car 1968 1100l converted into a Mexico I was 17 the insurance was more than the car cost!
      In 1978 I bought an ex racing school Mexico Le Mans green.(I still own it today)
      I then bought a series of MK11 RS2000'S culminating in a signal red 80 Rs2000 LEL80W bought new from English's in Bournemouth in August 1980.
      Got married sold the Rs had a few 80's Fords then bought another Mk1 Mex when I retired in 2001 sold that and got an ex-Haynes of Maidstone Tour of Britain Rs2000 MK1.Sold that in 2005 saw the light an got the HS

        I still have my 1st RS. Bought in the early 80's from the local Ford dealer by an English salesman! Someone who knew about them too...He handed me the keys and said to take it for a spin. Well I didn't get back for over 1/2 hour! I guess he knew he had a buyer. It had a flat tyre, cracked windscreen and standard oil leaks, but I wanted it anyway and paid top dollar without negotiating the price, Stupid I know.
        When I was 16, Dad took a Mk2 RS2 for a run with the intention of buying it. If not for the smoking brakes,( he found a great hillclimb near home) we would have had a brand new RS in our drive then! He bought a damn Honda Civic instead.

        This is mine 24 years on! And never to be sold...

            Yes you are right but it was a year older than the RS2000 and I think £100 more and no one knew what they would be worth now!.
            But to be honest it would have gone after a few years like the RS2000 in those days it was an everyday car just like Mondeo's and Vectra's are now.
            From 1978 to 1986 my everyday cars were RS Escorts.

                been into escorts since rallycross& rallying on world of sport! , must have been about 7 or 8 . got the matchbox rs2000 & that was it! . when i started work three of the blokes were into escorts + thier mates (mk1 mexico`s & reps & an rs ) gt my first at 16 l reg 1300gt rotten but had loads of good parts think i paid £70 . then was given a 1300 auto on a g it was rotten . passed my test in 88 got a black mreg 2 door put a set of superslots on & quarter bumpers (all show no go!!) then i got a signal orange mk2 1600 sport r reg (mex spoilers & rs alloys + a race tuned 1660 x flow what a flyer ) moved on to pugs for a while (205 gti 309 gti) then briefly had a delta hf turbo, then i got a mint harrier in white , then back to the pugs ! 2 gti 6`s & got my mex as project in 2002 & next project (mk1 2 door tax exempt) end of last year so its come full circle really !!
