The best weekend ever, then the sour taste of Sunday.
Have the tour on a different weekend to the cumbria rsoc day
next year.
There was no car in the same league as Gerards X, car of the day on Sunday and every show he takes it to, doesnt get any better. One piece
exhaust and a factory oil filter......maybe a couple of bits of fluff on the carpet a little bit of dirt on top of the leaf spring. ffs the owners club are only going to happy when there are only 6 cars in a corner judging each others cars.
Id like to know what the 18 was marked down on ? Beautiful car.
Gerard keep bringing the cars over because the people that really matter
gave you a first and car of the day.Even your wagon deserves a cup.

No bling, just a standard car.
If anyone wants to question the quality of his car, please bare in mind that it won the overall car of the show at the autoglym grand finals in 2006.

However, it shouldnt of been competing against 30+ year old cars in the first place.
Dont you agree?

Last year there were a total of 13 different cars that entered in the 4 expert classes (trailered cars)
pre 81, (6 cars)
post 81 (non Cosworth) (4 cars)
post 91 (non Cosworth), (1 car)
Cosworth. (2 cars)
This year with them all in one class there have been 16 cars enter so far after only 3 shows ! !
Personally I like it as it means at least I have some competition rather than coming first and last at every show. So far this year I have had 3 second places.
Also note that modified non cosworth was between a mk2 rs2000 and a focus RS, and the Mk2 won, so it doesn't always go to the "whiz pop bang brigade"

last year these were merged into one class, again only the same 2 cars entered in this class all year ! !
If it went back to as it was in 2006 with a class for just standard driven mk2's would any more people show ?

on a serious note, i dont know what the answer is Alan.
possibly split expert into pre81/post81 ?
respect originality
respect spare part sourcing/remanufacture
it needs thought, and sensible discussion
forcing ALL trailered cars into one class isnt the sharpest idea in the world, people trailer for a number of reasons, location, cleanliness or even the fact that their car is sh1t to drive (like frosty)
what we cant have is a focus competing with a mk2
i think ruddy should sort it

I believe, ultimately, a "factory" car has to score more points over a "restored" car. If a, say MK2 has survived 25yrs + in its original state then that surely needs to be rewarded. Anybody, including myself can restore a car, again, in reality, thats not too dificult. To source a car llike Gers X, or Edds yellow one is extremely difficult. As i found, you can get yourself in a total mess regarding concours, been there done that. My hat comes off to Gerard for his continual enthusiam and support for the brand. The X surely has car of the car ????? and as Gary said. CAR OF THE YEAR. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

we are questioning why
1,a freshly built mk2 RS1800 that the mk2 guys think is flawless didnt get placed, wasnt that dirty surely, its not been driven since its rebuild.
2,a series X mk2 RS2000 with 640 miles and some parts that the anoraks
havent seen before

concourse will never be sorted out simply because there isn,t enough cars. IMO you need at least half a dozen car in each and every catagory to give everyone a fighting chance on a level playing field. Whats happening at the mo is that people are trying to satisfy other people with too few a cars. Its not going to happen. You will never ever satisfy everybody.

I think the reason is ALL of the fun has been taken out of Concours over the past say 10 years, Too much arguing, too much politics. There was a time in the mid 90's when it was actually fun to do concours with everyone having a laugh together. When I originally restored my Mexico I was going to go concours with it but then thought **** it, I want some fun.
People need to be entised back into showing, The classes need to be dead simple, The judges need to be pre chosen before a show.
Personally I would scrap concours altogether and have a show and shine on the day, Then you would see the masses return.
