  • Spoke Too Soon!!!!

All was going well with the Mex for next week, taxed it today, just taken it out for a (thra . .) spin

But it keeps sticking in gear, was a bit notchy getting into first and second. Then when I stopped (out of gear) it would`nt go into gear at all, eventually it did.

This happened earlier in the year so a new clutch went in, still having the same problems now though

any help much appreciated, I want to get it sorted before next week

    cheers

    Tony

Draining the old oil out is a real pain, You can buy air operated "Sucking machines" that operate off your tyre pressure. This would be the best way to remove the old oil. Re-fill is easy as you just undo the plug on the side of the box and fill from there till the fluid just starts to drip out.

Just had my box rebuilt and the guy who done the job recommended using 75-90 GL4 semi synthetic rather than the usual ep80/90.
I've probably done about 100 miles since its been back in the car and its really smooth and quiet.
I would have thought jacking the car up at the front and slipping the prop out from the back of the box would drain the oil out.
Not sure on the mex box but will probably have a filling plug on the side.
Just undo and refil with oil until it it runs out but don't forget to put the prop back in or the oil will run out all over the floor.

if your mex is still on the 4 speed box then drainin the oil is so easy as there is a drain plug at the bottom of the box

That sounds more like it Tim, it is still on the 4 speed. Not sure about removing the prop

Will give the plug theory a go.

                          thanks
