  • Which book are you reading at the moment ?

    If at all ?

I've just started reading "Bomber Boys" by Patrick Bishop

All about the aircrew of Bomber command in world war two.

I caught my attention because my late Father (who would have been 85 this year) was a Warrant Officer (Navigator) in Halifax, Wellington, and later in Dakota (DC3) in Africa/Europe after VE Day.
    Cheers Rob.

"Bomber boys" is a very thought provoking read, especially with the recent news items concerning the lack of a campaign medal for the bomber air crews. It certainly makes you think about what it must have been like to face such poor odds on surviving until the next morning, night after night

Sounds like some road rallies I did...

Seriously, I would be the last to make light of such a subject. Quite apart from working directly on logistic matters in a couple of more recent wars, I have a relative MIA in an RCAF Halifax over Germany in WW2 (and an acquaintance KIA in 'nam).

I have just finished reading Graham Gauld's new book "Gentleman Jack", the biography of Jack Sears. One or two gems of information, including confirmation from JS that the Team Lotus A frame Lotus Cortinas handled worse than the Willment Cortina GTs (and thus that Colin Chapman was not a complete genius and cost Ford in racing as well as rallying with that stupid rear end). Interesting chapter on organising the London-Sydney Marathon and the recce in a works-registered Mk2 4 door Cortina GT. Otherwise, a slightly disappointing book with no revelations/scandal on the Tom Walkinshaw/Silverstone Garages saga when Sears was chairman of the BRDC.

im halfway through sideways to victory (roger clark) its pretty good read quit funny about him ripping bits of his old mans cars that were for sale on the forecourt during his early rally days, and getting ****ed into the small hrs before hitting the stages on the lombard
