had to go to germany this week and had the mis-fortune to be booked on British Airways departing and arriving via terminal 5. What an absolute shambles from start to finish!
Delayed on Thursdays outward trip by 45 mins as not enough ground crew available to load plane but reurn trip last night was so bad it ended up making me speechless with amazement.
Rain and a couple of crashes on the autobahn caused traffic jams which delayed our arrival at frankfurt airport. The automated BA check in system wasn't working so I had to go to a desk where I was told that my flight was delayed for an unknown period because the pane i was due to fly home on hadn't yet left Heathrow on its outward flight yet! All wasn't lost yet because an earlier (18:40) flight was also delayed and if i rushed i could catch that one instead. Rushed around through security etc and got to the departure gate with 10 mins to spare to find my new flight (which was already 1hour 20 mins late) was going to be delayed even further. So many people had decided not to risk putting luggage in the hold all of the overhead lockers were crammed full and one passengers hand luggage spent the flight on the flight deck as there was nowhere else for it to be stowed! Eventually took off over 2 hours late and flew in to Heathrow, nice smooth landing, taxied upto the terminal building and sat on the sodding plane for 50 minutes before a member of the airport staff who was qualified in connecting the walkway to the plane could be found and the sodding door opened! what a f*****g shower of sh*t.
when i got off the plane i thought i was home and dry but it took 50 minutes to clear the airport and get to to the bus stop, The inside of the building isn't finished yet and the route to baggage claim (which luckily hadn't been lost) involves walking a long way, going down three sets of escalators, a ride on the monorail, going back up three escalators to passport control, back down again to ground level to the luggage carousels before eventually exiting the building. Was i ready for a fag after that one!!!
If any one is thinking of using terminal 5, take my advice, dont! Fly a different airline, fly from a different airport, catch the eurostar, drive there, do anything but use the worst excuse for a modern airport possible
