Crushed the body part presses???? Was there not a rumour going around a good few years after the MK2 went out of production that you could still get new body shells from Brazil or South Africa or somewhere or was that just wishful thinking on someones part????

    Chris

Oh and the only new part I've got is a genuine Ford gearknob for an RS2000 but I think you can probably still get them.

How about a cardboard "Sump guard" - it wouldn't stop a pebble, but these were fitted to Escorts from the factory - I think most of the cars had them removed on the first service as if they got wet they would be hanging off the bottom of the chassis rails like a bit of paper mache

Anyway I've got one still with the Pt No sticker on it
      Cheers Rob.

This is true as much of what gets discontinued in Europe usually ends up in continents like South America or Asia. Brazil is a good example, and I'm sure some of the rear wheel drive Escort manufacturing equipment was shipped out there in the early 80s. A recent example of this type of thing was the old Ford Cargo plant at Langley, Bucks. When this closed in 1993, all the presses etc were shipped out to Brazil and now the good old Cargo is the No.1 selling truck in South America - and long may it be too!!

I believe the presses were scrapped as by the end of production they were about worn out , you may find earlier pressings have sharper and cleaner lines. BL donated all its presses to the British Heritage company, thats why you can still get new shells for TR6's and MG's etc .

So early type doors won't fit later type cars as the swage lines will be different. That explains the panel fit on mine then Seriously though does anybody know for sure what happened to the original presses or is it all just rumours???

kev most parts will sit in attics till they sell their car and then some may see ebay these days (it used to be the car boots) to see if they can raise enough cash to buy the wife a meal !!!!!!!!!!! bought plenty cheap stuff on car boots / small auto jumbles

would be nice to see somebody start up shell reconditioning business for standard RS shells , have thought about it myself but costs involved would make it uneconomical , may be in a few more years when i have won the lotto

new parts where do you start still got plenty but not for sale !!!!!!!! at any money will need to buy the wife a meal in 2020

That's true mate, but just been looking in the Sporting Escort Guide by Graham Robson and he states that the Saarlouis presses were ripped out and re-jigged in readiness for the MKIII. So anyones guess, though I swear some equipment was shipped out to South America at some stage...though where this was sourced is anyones guess of course...

would the presses for mk2's gone to the companys that make non gen panels? or do they make their own moulds?
