Who is in charge? - the club that owns the site and its members, not any old Tom, Dick or Harry that happens to turn up and mouth off! As for other ideas if you were at the AGM (in other words were a member) you would know what was going on - and be able to read about it in the club magazine as a member. There is quite a bit in that that does not get on to the website.

All smacks of jealousy to me that people cannot get info for free anymore.

I've run my Mex for 11 years now and not bought a lot through clubs as there is a lot available if you know where to get it. And there are still bargains on flea bay.

At the end of the day this site is not a MOTOR CLUB is it? It is not recognised by the MSA and doesn't have owners (members) to whom it is responsible - AVO Owners Club does just like any other proper motor club. It is not a public on-line forum but is a proper authorised club.

Please DO NOT try and belittle my FREE website !

Never said this site is a Motor Club ! (looked at it but decided against it - I wonder why ???)

Why would my FREE website need to be MSA recognised ?

I AM the owner that allows FREE access to ALL !

My site is FREE and proper in my eyes !

Why not take this discussion back onto The AVO website and hammer it out on there ?

OH silly me I forgot FREE speech and expression is obviously NOT within the rules and regulations of The AVO

this saddens me tbh, have had mk1s since 1983, never joined the avo as even then it seemed different, some very close friends are in the avo club and contribute to the site i believe, and still they talk of unsettlement and the way its run, yes they can view their points at the agm, but i feel from their ways they dont wish to upset the apple cart.

It seems I cannot put my viewpoint down without being slagged off - now who is being a member of the thought police? I never tried to put your site down but tried to point out a rather fundamental difference as the AVO site is set up by and run for the members of an MSA recognised club.

We can all have our views and we should respect each other.

My love is Motorsport and in particular rallying. As I grew up with the Mk1 and the antics of RAC in LVX amongst others I just love the historics and the Mk1 in particular.

There are, if the 'club' organises events, advantages on insurance and legality in being MSA recognised. Even touring assemblies are supposed, under UK law, to be authorised events through the MSA. Actually taking part in an unauthorised event is a criminal offence! Having said that I would NEVER snitch on anyone running that sort of event without the proper permissions as I think the regulations are rather oppressive for what is a social gathering. However I do have a view on unauthorised competitive events.

At the end of the day let us respect each others views and let this settle down - we do not tread on each others toes elsewhere so let's not get overly upset over this. Time will tell whether the wishes of members to retain a degree of exclusivity is right or wrong.

I haven't, at any time, come on here and told you how to run your forum, in fact it has certain freedoms missing from the AVO site (and I am one of their moderators) which I think are nice to see. It is a different animal to the AVO site aimed at similar minded folk but with a slightly different viewpoint so let's all live together nicely shall we??

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL ON THIS BOARD.

Points of view are allowed and I wasnt slagging you off.

But comparing my site to The AVO club was unjust and unfair to me.

You have fee paying customers who expect value for money within that membership fee, they rightly or wrongly have now stopped non-payers from enjoying the AVO scene via the Forum area of the bb.

My site is free to all and any events we attend (as The Works Team) is where the event is legally run with Public Liability underwritten at the gate by the event organisers (such as your National Day)

NO car is condoned by me to travel to such events (or at any time on the public highway) if that car is not insured and taxed accordingly.

I do not organise shows, competitive events, or as you call them touring assemblies so MSA membership for this site in not needed. (I allow my site to be used for promotional threads for events but I receive no financial, or any other benefit from them)

In the past when I have organised a trackday then I ensure the event is underwritten by the Track Day Organisation involved - I effectively become a ticket agent for the TDO - Easy Track and Bookatrack is whom I chose to run to previous Non-competitive track days)

                      As you say

                      Happy New Year to all

btw :- Hope to See you and loads of AVO cars on the Lakes Touring Assembly 2008

                        Dave

I am glad that we have agreed that your site and the AVO Club site are different animals catering to slightly different audience and having different driving forces behind them.

We also have had different standards set for the site to which we have to adhere. Let's all live alongside each other. As I've said time will tell if our members have taken the correct decision - I hope so.

I would love to do something like the Lakes Tour but do not know if I'll have a car ready for then!

I would also say that I am delighted to see your guys along to any of our events and any that we might attend.

Once again may you and all your forum members have a very happy and prosperous New Year and long may the Escort rule (as long as it is rear wheel drive).
