Friend of my boss rebuilt a VP allegro about 10 years ago ,He went to the local Rover dealer to price a new back wing, Guy behind counter says why bother??? when you can have a new shell with boot bonnet and doors is only £500 So he reshelled it ,But it was still a pile of $hite Swopped it for a Bmw 2002 with a lpg conversion

learnt to drive in a vandan pla as a young lad round the local carpark.
my old man had a few so i like em cause i remember him when i see one.
The funniest thing i ever saw was when i was with a m8 in his 4 speed 2.8 capri doing 120 mph watching an allegro pulling away from us must have had a 3.5 rover conversion

                        Some did !

I wrote off my 1600 sport after 4 months with a £3k loan left to pay off. Could only afford an Allegro to get me by. It was awesomly $hite ! 2 heads, 5 gaskets lol !

I used to sell these in the late 70s. Early models had a square steering wheel, rounded on the corners, not as bad to drive as you would think. They were a good seller for me, very comfortable, good spec, and solid feel about them. Most came standard with a water leak! The best was the 1750 HL (Maxi engine and 5 speed box) which flew. Never ever matched the image of the Ford though. I had a demonstrator model -1300 Super, but I always took the birds out my own Mk1 Escort Sport.

My first car was an allegro 1300 super. Bag of shite but back then i was well chuffed. My grandad got me it for my 17th birthday and me dad and me went down to farnborough to fetch it late one sunday night. ****in thing broke down at peterborough on the a1 at 1am. Cost me £130 to put a new alternator on and I hadn't even got it home. Ran it for 6 months then swapped it for a mk1 golf. Got the **** ripped out of me at college big time until she went. Wouldn't ever want to drive one again!!!!
