Like I said, I don't choose what cars go onto stands but I do choose what goes into the Club magazine and if you write me a feature about your car I'd be happy to use it. I hope you do join and look forward to getting your article!

I'm sure I'd feel disappointed if I'd been offered a place on the stand only for the offer to then be withdrawn; from your postings on the AVO message board your enthusiasm was obvious. Russ must have his reasons but I know plenty of AVO cars are modified - and such cars are perfectly entitled to be in the Club magazine.

Mark makes a lot of valid points in what he says but with regard to his first point I'm happy to wholeheartedly confirm, I'm always chasing people for articles!

The point I was making is that lots of people ARE interested in modifications out of the 'norm' so if they would like to read about them, then surely they should be allowed to SEE them as well?

To write an article for a club which cannot accept my car is not top of my list at the moment I'm afraid Sorry, but thanks for asking.

        Hi
Been a member for about 20yrs.
For £25 a year it is worth it.
But it is a small club, about 500 members.
Always lack of things to put into Magazine, so this has dropped from 6 to 4 issues a year.
But I have met many friends through the club.
Been to many of the shows and meet up with members but you can do this with out being a member.
Some of the members are only for standard cars, but I say as long as the shell is AVO put what every you want in it.
You will always have different types of people in a club I have seen a few thing happen over the years, but it is all about the cars.
        It is up to you.

        Cheers
        Martin

I wonder what would be said about someone offering a Superspeed Escort for the NEC.
They have there own special display area at National Day.
These cars are only related to AVO by their bodyshells.

I think people would see the thinking behind a Vauxhall transplant.
I also think it would make some people see the club in a different light too.
I know to so many AVO cars with non standard engines, mainly Zetecs & Vauxhalls. Who are not club members.

I bet they would not have refused if it had a BDA in it Aled..
Although it's the wrong engine for the car. Still two cams & 16 valves though.
At the end of the day your car was originally built alongside all the other AVO cars out there.
          Mark....

I’ve been a member for about 10 years. I don’t have much contact from this side of the world other than the magazine and emails from a few members. (I must register on the BB) I did however go to the national day in 2005 and had a huge time - Escort heaven for me and never seen so many in one spot. Everybody I met went out of their way to make me feel at home. They guys I know there are always very helpful and from my point of view a great bunch of people. Planning on a visit next year as well.

Well, I think we're ok too...

It's just impossible to please all the people all the time and some people just like to wind others up, eh Mark

Steve, my opening comment when replying to this thread was the AVO club are OK.
We all have opinions, my only gripe is I think you over police your BB.

I get people ringing me though.... usually wannabe AVO members that are finding it difficult to source information from the club.
Most are looking for cars and need information so they can get the right car for them. I understand all the committee guys are doing there jobs voulentary & the last thing I'm out to do is wind you lot up.
You deal with membership I know... but who is the sound board for all those thinking of buying a car or joining the club to bounce all their questions off..??
As an example it was me that Aled rang when buying his car...
I was on holiday at the time but still took an hour out to give him as much info as I could.
I never thought to ask why he had no joy when contacting the club.
                  Mark....

                    Mark,

From my point of view, I have a serious problem with people calling wanting info about cars. Let's be honest, there is plnty of general info out there, it's easily found on the net or any of the forums dealing with these cars. But when people start asking for info about specific cars, I tend to back right off unless the seller has advised me (or the club) to give the info out.

Why? Well, tbh, it's not my place to be telling all and sundry about other members (or even non-members) cars, this is why we have added the bit in the board guidelines stating that requests for such info will be deleted.

As for Aled, well I think he got plenty of information from the AVO board, take the time and read it yourself and tell me what more could he could have wanted.

I'm having trouble with your point about people ringing you up looking for cars. Isn't that your job of work? Don't you do that for a living? I know when people call me up for info about my business, I don't count the time as I usually hope it leads to a sale, if not at that time, at some time in the future - Am I wrong to think you are no different?

Perhaps you should consider coming on the committee matey, that way you would be part of the decision making process and see just how much work we actually do and how much time we actually give up with no reward either at the time or in the future... Your suggestion earlier in this thread that the BB does most of the work for us is frankly laughable.

                      2. They wanted nothing to do with the trip I am arranging and the thread was locked.

                      3. My Mex was going on their display at the NEC but a phone call today said I was no longer wanted.

All in all, I am disappointed at the moment.
Perhaps I should have kept my disappointment to myself.

I don't want this to be a slanging match.

I was just annoyed that's all. (understandable I think). Sorry.

                      Please don't row.

Aled, you just can't beat a bit of Biff!

Sorry you were (are) disappointed, I'm guessing it's my fault tbh, I'm not one for hiding behind or blaming anyone for things and one day perhaps we can have a chat face to face rather than this sterile method people seem to get embroiled with nowadays.

Thanks for the last post, it's very much appreciated.

                          Yes ok thanks.

It was me who phoned you a few weeks ago about spotlight brackets by the way. I didn't realise it was you at the time. I will still need some sometime. No rush now though, as I was getting the spots fitted for the NEC.

Steve if someone HPi's a car they will get all the info they want. Other than who owns it.
So if someone starts asking for specific details.... it's usually down to what is fitted to a car in most cases & is it correct..

I only read threads on message boards that are of interest.
Aled had already provisionally bought his car when he spoke to me.
So there is no sale there... did it stop me taking time out to help him though.? No.
As you are aware eBay has turned around how Escorts are bought & sold.
No longer when someone phones can you offer them a choice of 5 or 6 cars.
Hence the phone calls I get now are related to cars seen elsewhere.
The sale of such cars benefits me in no way whatsoever.
The only phone calls that lead to sales these days start with "have you got" or "I see you have a car for sale"
85% start "I'm looking for some information". Or "can I pick your brains"

Did I not PM you about a committee position prior to the AGM & yes I was told at the time I had missed the cut off date to apply.... but I did offer.
What positions are available at the moment.?
I personally contribute to the club far more than you realise. (see PM) & how many holes are filled..?
I didn't see you at the NEC in '05 or '06 when I was helping set up & strip down the club stand. Again as a non member.
My reference to the BB is all the arm chair experts are quick to reply to threads asking for info. Those people are then not having to ring the club.
                            Mark....

I don't do the appointments and I told you the truth in April, sorry if that's not what you wanted to hear. I'm sure if you make your intentions clear AND you are a member (an essential requirement) all posts are available each AGM.

I really don't intend getting into a ****ing contest about who does what for the club mate, so I'll not go there if you don't mind!
