Are there any of you members of the AVO club at all?.....I'm just wondering whether or not to join.

I may be having bad luck, but all I seem to be getting lately is negativity

      1. When I was after help to look for a MK1 and what to look for in a genuine AVO shell, I had minimal help from them.

      2. They wanted nothing to do with the trip I am arranging and the thread was locked.

      3. My Mex was going on their display at the NEC but a phone call today said I was no longer wanted.

All in all, I am disappointed at the moment.

Used to be in the AVO club and loved every minute of it. Found everybody to be great and very helpful.

Aled.... This is one reason I've not been a member of any club for several years.
The AVO club on the whole are OK.
They just seem to be either unwilling or unable to listen to other peoples views.
Hence if they do not agree with a thread on their message board they will either lock it or delete it.

I can't answer the NEC question for you. Maybe it's because you are currently not a member..? Ask Russ direct though & no doubt he will tell you.

As for help & advice, I think you have to be persistant with the AVO guys.
I think they let their BB do most of the work for them.
I know at least two of there committee members read this board.
All I would say to them is Pete Williams was the perfect role model for the club.
For any of them to have his outlook & willingness would certainly move the club forward.
          Mark....

It was Russ that phoned me today to break the news.

The reason given was that some members were objecting to the Vauxhall engine. I did volunteer not to lift the bonnet, but to no avail.

I'm on the committee of the AVO Club (magazine editor), although what I'm saying here is purely my opinion.

The BB does does provide a lot of the information - were you relying on that or did you try to speak to someone when you were buying your car?

I'd like to think that as a Club we're not "unwilling / unable to listen etc" but being on the committee I realise I see things from a different angle. Certainly I do all I can to help if anyone contacts me.

The message board thread was locked because - as I understand it - if a trip was deemed to have been organised with the clubs involvment it could have caused all sorts of problems for the Club and its MSA membership. If you weren't advised of this then sorry.

I agree Peter Williams was the perfect role model for the Club. We (the committee) all do this voluntarily and with the best interests of the Club at heart. I hope I've got a similiar outlook to Peter's - but I know my knowledge of the AVO cars is nothing like his was.

Finally, again my opinion, your car having a Vauxhall engine wouldn't concern me. I've seen pictures of the car and it looks very nice - but I don't organise the show stands I'm afraid.

I've been a member for about 5 years (still owe smudger a cheque for renewal though - he collar'd me at a road rally yesterday lol)
Found them very helpful, especially Andy Percival Mex registrar, bought my Mk1 Mex through the AVOC thanks to Andy.
Worth joining if you're into AVOs definatly.

You do a good job Keith. But even you must have to chase others members for content now & then..?

I did say unwilling to listen to other peoples views. It's just some members would rather ignore some points raised. Rather than resolve an issue or be informative.

Whoever locked the thread should have just posted a disclaimer stating this event was in no way associated with or suported by the AVO OC.
This takes me back to the slight bit of ignorance there's seems to be.. rather than inform, discuss or enlighten it seems to be a case of delete lock or ignore.

No one knows everything. If Pete didn't know something he would go out of his way to get you the correct information. Most now just say sorry I don't know.

As for the car having a Vauxhall motor... wasn't there a bare shell on the stand one year.

i have not belonged to the avo club or any other escort mk1 club for at least 15 years , i used to belong to nearly all of them , but for what a few handy spares once in blue moon , people spouting off about cars they have owned for a couple of months and think they have a life times knowledge of these cars , no thanks .

                              Keith,

As the magazine editor, would my car, which isvirtually rally prepared make a good feature? Your committee may not like it, but maybe a lot of other people would like to see how some cars have developed?

To be fair, I was told why the thread had been locked and my last post in it I explained that it was nothing to do with the AVO club. Here it is:

I don't wish to sound bitter, but I am clearly disappointed at initially being invited to attend, then today out of the blue, being rejected. As I see it, (and Feedback is vital), perhaps your club does need to look outside the box a bit and start accepting the fact that there are a lot of owners of AVO cars out here that are modified.
